News
Orioles first baseman Steve Pearce is not complaining about his recent time on the bench. In fact, he understands why Buck Showalter has been opting to play others over him.

Pearce owns a .167 batting average with two homers, four RBI and .292 slugging percentage. That translates into a lot of blown opportunities on a team that has been battering pitchers much of the year.

"I've been like a one-man rally killer this past week," he told masnsports.com. "It's been frustrating and I think Buck (Showalter) sees I'm frustrated. I'm not swinging like I'm capable. But it comes around, it always does. Just want to get back to how I know I can play."

How he knows he can play was how he played in a breakout 2014 in which he batted .293 with 21 taters and recorded an OPS of .930.

Pearce has just three at-bats since April 21.

News
Orioles pitcher Chris Tillman took the loss Thursday, giving up seven earned runs on five hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings while striking out three in his team's 7-6 defeat against the Blue Jays.

Tillman (2-2) has alternated poor outings with excellent performances over his first four starts, and Thursday's dud was just the latest in the pattern. The Blue Jays were able to score three runs in each of the third and fourth innings before tacking on one more in the fifth, giving them all they needed to take the win.

Tillman owns a 7.58 ERA and 13:13 K:BB ratio in 19 innings. He's scheduled to face the White Sox Tuesday in his next start.

Orioles starting pitcher Bud Norris (1-2) allowed three runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings on Sunday against the Red Sox to earn his first win of the season.

Norris held the Red Sox scoreless through the game's first six innings before surrendering a three-run homer to third baseman Pablo Sandoval in the seventh.

Norris rebounded from his previous outing where he allowed nine runs in just 2 2/3 innings.

Norris' next start is scheduled for Saturday against the Rays.

David Lough's first home run of the season was a 10th-inning walk-off winner that lifted the Orioles over the Red Sox on Saturday.

Lough entered the game in the eighth inning as a pinch runner and then came around to bat in the 10th to hit the game winner.

"I just wanted to put together a good at-bat," he said to MASN Sports. "He likes to throw that splitter a lot, so just wanted to have a good at-bat, maybe draw a walk or whatever. Then I got to 3-2 and he ended up throwing me one over the plate where I got a good piece of wood on it.

"It's huge. I'm a team-first guy and have always been that way. Good to get the win and see the smile on the guys' faces. Hopefully that happens on a regular basis from here on out and we can keep rolling."

News
Buck Showalter has already declared that there should be space on the Orioles roster for Jimmy Paredes when J.J. Hardy returns from the disabled list in about a week.

One would certainly think so based on how Paredes is swinging the bat. Showalter will likely have to find him some significant playing time.

Paredes is batting .352 with five homers, eight doubles and 17 RBI in 24 games since joining the team in 2014. He was 8-for-15 with two doubles, one triple and a tater with seven RBI in the just-completed series against Boston. And at least one teammate is quite impressed.

"It's amazing watching that guy," Steve Pearce told MASNSports. "Hope he keeps it rolling. He could hit in the top of the order or the middle of the lineup. He can do some damage with the bat."

Orioles catcher Matt Wieters' (elbow) next extended spring action will be Monday, where he's expected to catch four to five innings, per MLB.com.

Wieters, who's on the 15-day disabled list with an elbow injury, played in his first extended spring game on Friday.

"I think the next step for Matt is to be able to continue on and each day feel the same way and each day make sure he feels like he's 100 percent ready to go. He's getting past a lot of the mental blocks," said Russell, who watches Wieters on tape. "Will it be three weeks, will it be four weeks? It's up to Matt and how he continues to progress and if we don't have any setbacks. And knock on wood, so far so good."

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado went 2 for 4 with two home runs and four RBI in his team's 7-6 loss to the Blue Jays Thursday.

The Orioles found themselves down 7-0 after five innings, but Machado kickstarted the comeback with a solo home run in the sixth. After an RBI single brought the score to 7-3 in the ninth, the third baseman knocked his second home run of the game to cut the deficit to one run. However, that's as far as the Orioles were able to come, and the Blue Jays managed to complete the series sweep with the win.

Machado has hit .218/.281/.418 with three home runs, 11 RBI and two stolen bases in 55 at-bats.

Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen allowed two runs on four hits in eight solid innings against the Red Sox on Saturday but had to settle for a no-decision. Mike Napoli connected off Chen for his first homer of the season.

Chen's eight innings tied his career-high for the third time.

"Compared to my last outing, I think my command got better," Chen said to MASN Sports. "I made an adjustment, and it worked out pretty well today. In the previous outings, I wasted too many pitches and could not go this deep in the game. It was very important for me to go deep in the game and feel like the manager was trusting me to let me out there pitching."

Chen's next start is scheduled for Friday against the Rays.

Orioles starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez allowed four runs on eight hits and one walk in six innings during a no-decision Friday against the Red Sox. He struck out one.

Gonzalez held Boston off the scoreboard for four innings, while Baltimore built a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, the Red Sox got going in the fifth inning. David Ortiz had a two-out, three-run homer before Hanley Ramirez hit a solo home run, putting Boston ahead 4-2.

The Orioles would rally to tie the game in the seventh inning, getting Gonzalez off the hook for the loss.

"I've got to tell you, I didn't think Miguel was carrying his normal stuff and he got through it," manager Buck Showalter said, per MASNsports.com.

Gonzalez, who is 2-1 through four starts, is scheduled to make his next start Wednesday against the White Sox.
