The Orioles were not about to take slugger Adam Jones out of their lineup Friday just because he's 1-for-30 lifetime against white Sox starter John Danks. Jones is indeed batting third and playing center field.

If Danks was ever vulnerable against Jones, it would be this season. The left-hander has been a mess with just two quality starts in the last seven outings and an overall ERA of 5.38.

News
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Thursday catcher Matt Wieters is still not ready to catch on consecutive days.

"It's not if, I think it's when, and that's going to be totally up to Matt and John Russell and the trainers," Showalter said, per MASNsports.com. "It's not something I walk up to him every day and say, 'Hey, is today the day? Is today the day?' I'm not going to do that to him. I'm not going to jeopardize him being here every other day by pushing the envelope on it. But I know he's playing some catch now between outings, so to speak.

"When he first got here, he'd catch and take the next day off, even though he's available. We wouldn't have brought him here if we felt like we couldn't use him in a game the day after, but he is now doing some things on the day he's not catching that he wasn't doing when he first got here, so I think it will happen at some point. When it is, I don't know, and we're fortunate to have Caleb (Joseph) and some other catchers down below that we feel good about the depth.

"We'll take it the way it is, and if it's this way the rest of the year, so be it. I think at some point he'll feel comfortable doing it. I try to stay out of that. I don't want him to think that I'm putting that pressure on him, and I'm not. We'll take him any way we can get him."

News
Phillies pitcher Miguel Gonzalez has been out since April 8 with right shoulder inflammation.

Gonzalez suffered a setback, and GM Ruben Amaro said it's possible Gonzalez won't pitch this season.

"He's going back through kind of a strengthening program," Amaro said, per the News Journal. "He came out and threw kind of a simulated game about a week ago, and he didn't feel like he had enough velocity to compete and he just feels like he needs more strengthening. Whether he's going to get there, who knows? ... He just hasn't been healthy enough."
