News
Remember those reports coming out of Triple-A Columbus about Danny Salazar being back to form and as good as he was last year? After his first start back in the majors Thursday, the jury's still out.

He didn't pitch poorly, but any transformation he may have undergone in his 10 starts at Columbus wasn't immediately evident in the results or on the radar gun. He still struggled with his command, walking three in an inefficient five innings, and he still averaged 1-2 mph less on his fastball than he did for most of his stay last year.

And it's not like the results were radically different at Triple-A. His strikeout rate did improve during his stay there, but he still issued 14 walks in 17 2/3 innings over his final three starts. The red flags remained even amid the glowing reports.

So ... were they all a bunch of hooey? Hard to say. The talent is evident. Even with reduced velocity, Salazar is among the hardest throwers in the game and should at least deliver a high strikeout rate. But with his control issues, will he accumulate enough innings for it to matter in Fantasy?

I already ranked him a conservative 77th at starting pitcher before this start, so I didn't feel the need to move him in response. In most leagues, he's worth owning, but in a what-do-you-have-to-lose sort of way.

News
A lack of run support continued to plague Indians rookie Trevor Bauer on Wednesday afternoon in Minnesota.

Bauer wasn't lights-out, but he did manage to twirl his fifth quality start in his last six outings and give up three runs or less in his sixth straight. But he took the loss as the Indians provided him with just one run.

The right-hander yielded three earned runs on six hits, including a solo home run off the bat of Oswaldo Arcia. He walked two and fanned seven.

Bauer, whose record fell to 4-5, will try to even it up next Tuesday against visiting Seattle.

Indians first baseman Carlos Santana went 4 for 5 with two doubles, one home run and two RBI in his team's 8-2 win over the Twins Tuesday.

Santana smacked a solo home run in the fifth inning and drove in the final run of the game with a ninth-inning double. He was just 3 for 18 since the All-Star break before exploding Tuesday. Santana has hit .214/.353/.401 with 15 home runs and 42 RBI in 322 at-bats.

News
Indians pitcher Corey Kluber flirted with perfection on Thursday against the Royals, but failed to factor into the decision despite another dominant outing.

Kluber allowed a single to Omar Infante in the seventh inning to end his perfect game bid. It was his longest career no-hit bid. His previous high was 4 1/3 innings. The right-hander yielded one unearned run on two hits and no walks while striking out 10 in an extra-inning affair. Of his 107 pitches, 73 were strikes.

Over his last six starts covering 45 2/3 innings, Kluber has allowed eight earned runs. He owns a 2.77 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP over 22 starts (149 1/3 innings). His next start will come Wednesday at home against Seattle.

Injuries
Knee - 15-day DL. On Triple-A rehab assignment (Updated - 7/20/14)
News
The Indians have been contacted by rival clubs interested in pitcher Justin Masterson before the July 31 trade deadline, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Masterson has been on the disabled list since July 8 because of right knee soreness. He went 4-6 with a 5.51 ERA in 19 starts before the injury. He will make his second minor-league rehab start Friday at Triple-A Columbus.

"We told him to get after it. We think that would be good for him. Just to get after it, let it fly and see how far he could carry that into the game," manager Terry Francona said.

Hamstring - 15-day DL. Out until at least early August (Updated - 7/7/14)
News
Indians outfielder Michael Bourn played long-toss in the outfield prior to Thursday's game against the Royals in Kansas City. He's also been taking part in light running drills, as he continues to work his way back from a hamstring injury, MLB.com reports.

Bourn has been sidelined since July 5 with the injury and remains without a timetable. He will likely need a rehab stint in the minors. Before the injury, he batted .267 with three homers, 21 RBI, 37 runs scored and seven steals in 285 at-bats.

News
Left-hander T.J. House is apparently the odd man out in the Indians rotation. He has been demoted to Triple-A Columbus.

House has been unimpressive as a starter in the bigs this season. He is 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA and has yielded 64 hits in 50 innings. He was doomed by his last two starts with six earned runs allowed on 14 hits and five walks in 9 2/3 innings.

Indians pitcher Bryan Shaw was stuck with a loss Monday after giving up a tiebreaking solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning of his team's 4-3 defeat against the Twins.

Shaw (4-2) was pitching for the third time in four nights Monday and wound up serving up his third home run of the season to bring home the decisive run of the game. He owns a 2.76 ERA and 40:13 K:BB ratio in 45 2/3 innings.

Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera increased his activities on Thursday, as he continues to work his way back from a back injury. Manager Terry Francona remains hopeful of a return this weekend against the Royals, particularly on Saturday.

Cabrera is hitting .247/.308/.392 over 365 at-bats.
