Despite struggling to open the season, the Indians want to be patient with shortstop Jose Ramirez, reports MLB.com.

"I would encourage [fans] to take a look at Jose Ramirez's body of work," Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said, per MLB.com. "Not only what he did last year at the Major League level, but the way he played and performed throughout our development system, because he's a guy that's produced at each level and played very well at each stop he's been at -- including the Major Leagues."

Ramirez is hitting .196 with one home run in 51 at-bats this season and the team has prospect Francisco Lindor waiting in the minor leagues.

"Admittedly, he's had a rough start to the season -- offensively, especially -- but he's the same guy that came up last year, struggled initially and then figured things out the second time and performed pretty well and was a big part of our team's success in the second half," Antonetti said.

David Murphy hit a pinch-hit home run for the Indians in the ninth inning, off of closer Joakim Soria. The blast extended Murphy's hitting streak to five games. He's hitting 7 for 15 over that span.

Murphy led off the ninth with a solo shot, his second homer and second RBI of the year. Hitting .143 before the hit streak began, Murphy is up to .278.

News
Indians starting pitcher Danny Salazar had one of the finest starts of his MLB career, as he struck out a career-high 11 during a 13-1 rout Friday at Detroit. The right-hander allowed one run on six hits and three walks in seven innings.

Salazar (2-0) ran into some trouble in the first inning, as he loaded the bases on a walk, single and hit batter. However, he escaped the jam unscathed.

He did allowed a solo home run to Nick Castellanos in the second inning, but it was one of few blemishes for the righty on Friday. He has a 2.08 ERA through two starts.

"Danny's always had maybe some of the best stuff on our staff," manager Terry Francona said, per Cleveland.com. "There's just some inconsistencies that we talked about. He had a really good week this week. Now, we'll challenge him again tomorrow, because we need him to have about another 30 [good starts]. That's the object. When you start doing that, with his stuff, that's when you have a chance to be really good."

His previous high in strikeouts was 10, which he accomplished three times. His next scheduled start is for Wednesday vs. Kansas City.

Knees - 15-day DL. On Triple-A rehab assignment (Updated - 4/25/15)
News
Indians designated htiter Nick Swisher will spend the week continuing his rehab with Triple-A Columbus, FOX Sports Ohio reports.

"Offensively, I feel great," Swisher said, per MLB.com. "Do I think I could come up here and help this team right now? Absolutely. But that's not the only thing I want to be able to do. I want to be able to help on both sides of the ball."

It appears as if Swisher, who is working his way back from surgeries on both knees, won't return to the Indians lineup until next week at the earliest. He made his rehab debut Friday and is 5 for 9 through two games.

"The injury was worse than what I thought," Swisher said. "I thought this would be something I could bounce right back from, just like I have [for] every other little injury I've had."

News
Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer has been cleared to start Tuesday against the Royals, MLB.com reports.

"He'll pitch [Tuesday]," Indians manager Terry Francona said, per MLB.com. "He's good. He came in early today, because if something wasn't going the right direction, we wanted to make sure we were able to have a heads up, because that would entail a roster move. But he's good to go. So that was good news."

Bauer was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday due to food poisoning but will be able to take the mound a few days later. He is 2-0 with a 0.95 ERA and 26:11 K:BB ratio in 19 innings over his first three starts while allowing just eight hits.
