News
Indians shortstop Jose Ramirez went 2 for 3 with two walks, two runs scored, one RBI and two stolen bases in his team's 4-3 win over the White Sox on Wednesday.

Ramirez hasn't been a force at the plate for much of the season but turned things on against the White Sox, going 5 for 10 with three walks and three stolen bases in the last three games. He broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI single in the seventh inning and his team didn't relinquish the lead over the remainder of the game.

"He looks like he's starting to play with some confidence," manager Terry Francona said, per Northeast Ohio Media Group. "His energy rounding the bag at first ... he looks like the Jose we became really fond of last year. That's very welcome.

"His batting average (.198) is going to be low for a while, but if he starts playing like that it will give us a huge lift."

Ramirez has hit .198/.260/.261 with one home run, seven RBI and eight stolen bases in 111 at-bats.

The return to health of former No. 5 starter T.J. House will have no effect on current place-holder Shaun Marcum, who has cemented the spot for the Indians, per the Northeast Ohio Media Group.

Marcum proved himself worthy Wednesday with a strong start in which he earned a win against the host White Sox. He has allowed three runs in 11 2/3 innings this season.

News
Indians pitcher Danny Salazar earned a win on Thursday, giving up just five hits and three walks in six scoreless innings while striking out eight in his team's 5-2 victory over the White Sox.

Salazar (5-1) managed to avoid serving up a home run for the first time this season in Thursday's win, as the White Sox managed just one extra-base hit (a double) during his six innings of work. He's now managed to strike out an average of one batter per inning or better in six of his seven starts.

"He had such a good fastball that when he needed it, he went to it, and he didn't nurse it in there," manager Terry Francona said, per MLB.com. "He attacked when he needed to and he ended up giving us six.

Salazar owns a 3.50 ERA and 60:9 K:BB ratio in 43 2/3 innings. He's slated to face the Rangers at home on Tuesday.

News
Indians starting pitcher Trevor Bauer (3-1) gave up one run on four hits in 7 1/3 innings of work Tuesday to defeat the White Sox.

The one run allowed by Bauer was an RBI single in the fourth inning by Avisail Garcia.

"I think I've just happened to run into them when I feel good, when I execute well," Bauer said. "When you execute well you have a good chance to beat anybody."

The win was Bauer's first since April 15.

"I'll tell you what, [Bauer] was good," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "He had a real good breaking ball and in this cold weather, I thought that was something. He made them respect all his pitches and he competed."

Bauer's next scheduled start is set for Sunday in Cincinnati.

News
Indians closer Cody Allen picked up his eighth save on Wednesday despite allowing one earned run on two hits and two walks in the ninth inning while striking out one in his team's 4-3 win over the White Sox.

Allen was able to record a quick out but gave up a single and two walks to load the bases. He then managed to induce a popout but couldn't escape the inning unscathed, as an infield single brought a run home and put the potential tying run on third base. Allen was able to ring up J.B. Shuck to end the game and avoid what would have been his first blown save in a month.

"He had a tough time finding the strike zone," manager Terry Francona said, per Northeast Ohio Media Group. "He fell behind. Mickey (Callaway, pitching coach) went out and tried to settle things down. Then he got the pop up on the first pitch which was huge.

"With Cody's breaking ball, whether it's a right or left-hander, there's not a lot of difference in the splits for him. He just fell behind a lot of hitters."

Allen owns a 6.61 ERA and 24:12 K:BB ratio in 16 1/3 innings.

Knee - 15-day DL. On Triple-A rehab assignment. Expected to return May 24 vs. Cincinnati (Updated - 5/21/15)
News
With his Thursday rehab assignment game finished, Indians catcher Yan Gomes will return to his team for Sunday's game against the Reds.

Gomes went 2 for 4 in his rehab assignment Thursday night.

Gomes sprained his MCL in April and has been on the DL since. Gomes has gone a total of 5 for 13 during his rehab assignment.

"We just want to try and make a good decision," Indians manager Terry Francona said, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "Part of this is how important he is to us. I've said it before ... you want your catcher to be indispensable. That's probably the ultimate compliment to him. Then when they're not around, you find out that maybe they are."
