News
The home run hit by Tigers center fielder Anthony Gose on Sunday certainly fell into the "too-little, too-late" category, but it still came as a pleasant surprise. He only has two on the season.

Gose blasted off in the seventh inning to merely cut the deficit to 9-4. He even got pinch-hit for in his next at-bat and finished 1-for-3. But he does own a respectable slash line on the year of .274/.317/.371.

He has also hit safely in each of his last five starts and owns a .333 average (7-for-21) during that stretch.

News
Tigers right-hander Anibal Sanchez flirted with history on Friday, but would come up short.

With the Tigers up comfortably 8-0, Sanchez took a no-hitter into the eighth inning. But he gave up a one-out single to Ezequiel Carrera, and then the wheels started to come off.

Sanchez, who had already walked the leadoff batter in the inning, proceeded to load the bases before Ryan Goins singled in the first run for the Blue Jays. That would be all for Sanchez, but the bullpen would allow five more runs to score in the eighth.

But the Tigers were able to hang on for the 8-6 win, giving Sanchez his seventh win of the season. Ultimately, Sanchez allowed four runs on three hits over 7 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out five, throwing 117 pitches on the evening.

"Sanchy did a great job," said Tigers manager Brad Ausmus, per MLB.com. "I think he got a little weary at the end. Pitch count was up. When you get tired, you lose a little bit of your control, but he did, obviously, an outstanding job tonight."

This makes back-to-back outings in which Sanchez has allowed four earned runs, as his ERA sits at 4.65 on the year.

News
Justin Verlander was pitching effectively for the Tigers until the fifth inning, when the Blue Jays figured out the righty and rocked him for a six-run frame in Detroit's 10-5 loss.

Verlander would finish his five innings of work with an unsightly line of seven earned runs on seven hits, including allowing back-to-back home runs. He struck out five and walked two while throwing 98 pitches.

In two of his four outings since returning from the disabled list, Verlander (0-2) has been rocked for 13 runs and 17 hits, both losses. In the other two outings, both no-decisions, he has given up four runs on nine hits.

News
Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes joined the hit parade Monday night in Seattle. He homered and singled as part of a 19-hit onslaught and lopsided win for the Tigers.

His solo blast in the sixth cut the deficit to 5-4 and began a 9-0 blitz over a two-inning period. He also scored in the seventh.

The big game pushed his hitting streak to four and gave him seven hits in his last 19 at-bats.
