News
Twins pitcher Ricky Nolasco earned a win on Monday, giving up two earned runs on seven hits in 7 2/3 innings while striking out five and walking none in his team's 7-2 victory over the Red Sox.

"Normally, you go out there and challenge [hitters], but I tried that the past couple of starts, with so-so results," Nolasco said, per the StarTribune. "I know the scouting report on me is [to] swing early because I'm going to be throwing a lot of strikes."

Nolasco (5-1) was handed a 7-0 lead after two innings, and though he gave up a pair of runs in the top of the third, he was able to shut the Red Sox down over the remainder of the outing for his fifth straight win.

Nolasco owns a 5.12 ERA and 27:10 K:BB ratio in 31 2/3 innings. He's slated to face the Blue Jays on Sunday.

Injuries
Elbow - 60-day DL. Out until at least early June (Updated - 5/23/15)
News
After experiencing soreness after throwing a bullpen session Tuesday, Padres pitcher Josh Johnson hopes to play catch sometime this week, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune.

"I just want to make sure and take it a little bit slower," Johnson said. "I said that from the beginning and it went so well that it’s kind of hard to do, is to take it slower than what it was. I might as well just continue to be patient, knowing that it’s still a long road."

Johnson is on the 60-day DL as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. He has not pitched this season.

"It's just kind of general soreness, nothing crazy, nothing that's, like, we're really, really worried about it," he said. "It's pretty much all gone. Once it's gone, we're going to take a couple extra days and just make sure we don't have that little setback."

Indians catcher Brett Hayes has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Columbus. Hayes, who is a seven-year veteran, has the right to refuse the assignment, according to MLB.com. However, it has not been revealed if Hayes will indeed reject the assignment, or if he will head to Columbus.

Hayes was designated for assignment on Sunday when Yan Gomes was activated off of the disabled list. In limited playing time, Hayes had just five hits in 32 at-bats this season.

News
Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez has had an up and down season, and Sunday, home runs were once again a problem as the pitcher picked up a no-decision in the Tigers' 10-8 loss to the Astros.

Sanchez gave up two sixth-inning home runs to bring his total to 11 this season -- over the prior two campaigns, Sanchez had given up just 13 homers.

For the second straight start, Sanchez allowed seven earned runs, negating his 11 strikeouts.

"I thought all my pitches were working well today. Even the two homers were both down -- really down -- and they just put good swings on them," Sanchez said.
