News
A family emergency caused Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas to leave Sunday's win over the Twins, reports The Kansas City Star.

Moustakas was 0 for 2 before leaving the game. It is not known if the situation will affect Moustakas' status for Monday's game against the Rays.

Moustakas missed a weekends series against Detroit two months ago because of another undisclosed emergency and was placed on the bereavement list.

News
Royals right-hander Chris Young was solid in his start against the Twins on Saturday, but Minnesota came out on top in the 2-0 final. Young allowed one run on six hits over 5 1/3 innings, walking one and striking out two. The outing lowered his ERA to 2.64, but dropped his record to 7-4.

The only run Young gave up came on an RBI triple by Danny Santana in the fifth inning. Otherwise, the veteran righty was able to avoid any serious damage against him. Young has allowed fewer than two runs in four of his last six starts.

News
Royals right-hander Joe Blanton gave up four runs on nine hits over five innings in the 5-3 loss to the Twins on Saturday. Blanton struck out four and did not walk a batter, but he picked up his second consecutive loss.

Blanton (2-2, 3.74 ERA) got off to a bad start on Saturday, as he gave up a two-run home run to Joe Mauer in the first inning. He would give up another run later in the inning, before allowing an RBI triple to Trevor Plouffe in the fifth inning.

After allowing two earned runs over 11 innings in his first two starts of the season, Blanton has now allowed eight runs in 7 2/3 innings.

"It was good to get him into the fifth inning, especially after the first," Royals manager Ned Yost said, per MLB.com. "Mechanically, he was drifting, which means that his body was going forward, not allowing his arm to catch up. It results in a flat fastball and not as much bite on the sinker. He finally, about the middle of the second, stayed back more. He was pretty good from that point on. But the big, three-run first inning was a little bit of a hole to climb out of."

It remains to be seen if he will get another start, as the Royals are expecting to have Yordano Ventura back from the disabled list next week sometime.

News
The Royals have sent shortstop Christian Colon to Triple-A Omaha and promoted fellow infielder Dusty Coleman from the same team, MLB.com has reported.

Colon played sparingly after a stint as a starter in the wake of an injury to Alcides Escobar. A 3-for-22 slide has lowered his average from .286 to .244.

The 28-year-old Coleman should finally receive an opportunity to make his big-league debut, but his promotion might be mistimed. He is in a 2-for-17 slump, though his slash line still stands at a fine .303/.383/.469.
