News
Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays, due to a stomach virus that has been going around the team.

Teammate Jason Vargas had to be taken to a hospital Wednesday, but there is no indication Moustakas' issue is that severe. He is currently day to day.

News
Ned Yost has no crystal ball, but he sees some home runs coming off the bat of Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer in the near future.

"The timing is starting to get there," Yost told MLB Network Radio. "I think we're gonna see a real power surge from him in the weeks to come."

Hosmer hasn't had a power surge this season aside from a three-homer explosion during one week in early June. He has not gone yard since over a period of 20 games. The result is a disappointing slugging percentage of .353, though he does own a seven-game hitting streak in which he is 11 for 29.

Royals starter Danny Duffy yielded two homers and four earned runs on 10 hits in six innings Sunday, taking the loss in a 4-1 defeat to Cleveland. Duffy gave up both long balls in the second inning as Carlos Santana hit a solo shot and Yan Gomes added a two-run blast.

Duffy (5-8) saw his ERA rise to 2.86 despite striking out six and walking none. It was the first time in five starts that he allowed more than two earned runs. He'll face the Tigers at home Friday.

News
Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura lasted five innings Wednesday against the Rays.

Ventura ran into big issues with his control, and it wound up hurting him in a big way. In the fourth inning, Ventura gave up a single and two walks to load the bases. With two outs, he allowed a grand slam to Kevin Kiermaier. He lasted just one more inning before being pulled. Ventura tossed 104 pitches during the start.

Ventura gave up four earned runs on five hits over five innings. He walked four and struck out five during the appearance. The Royals managed to come back and win the game, saddling Ventura with a no-decision. It’s unclear where he’ll slot into the team’s rotation following the All-Star break.
