Marlins pitcher Henderson Alvarez picked up his third straight win Saturday, allowing just one earned run on five hits and one walk in seven innings and striking out six in his team's 2-1 victory over the Diamondbacks.

News
Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton parked his 32nd home run during a 10-3 win Sunday against the Diamondbacks. He finished 2 for 4 with four RBI, two runs and one walk.

Stanton didn't waste any time getting the Marlins an early lead, as he parked a three-run homer off Josh Collmenter with no outs in the first inning. Stanton added another RBI on a single off Randall Delgado in the seventh inning.

Stanton has homered nine times in his last 18 games. He is batting .306 with a .429 on-base percentage, .758 slugging percentage, 1.187 OPS, one double, 12 runs, 14 walks and 17 RBI in that span.

News
Marlins pitcher Jarred Cosart didn't factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing one earned run on six hits and two walks in six innings and striking out two in his team's 4-3, extra-innings win over the Rangers.

Cosart followed up seven scoreless innings in his previous start with another good one Tuesday. He fell behind when a run on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning made it 1-0, but the offense handed him a lead by the time he exited. The bullpen then gave the lead back once the starter departed. Cosart owns a 4.14 ERA and 83:56 K:BB ratio in 134 2/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the Angels Monday.

Can Avisail Garcia live up to the hype? (USATSI)
Can Avisail Garcia live up to the hype? (USATSI)

White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia is back. After suffering a brutal shoulder injury April 9, there was a good chance Garcia would miss the rest of the season. That's no longer the case. Garcia worked his way back, and has dominated during a rehab assignment, hitting .340 over 13 games. Garcia entered the year as a late-round, high-upside player, so his activation should intrigue Fantasy owners. Will Garcia produce enough to help teams down the stretch?

The answer partially depends on how you evaluated Garcia entering the season. Scouts have been mixed. Garcia hasn't shown the best command of the strike zone while coming up as a prospect, but has tremendous physical skills. He frequently drew comparisions to Miguel Cabrera due to his body type. The White Sox obviously think highly of Garcia. The club not only dealt for him last season, but plugged him into the middle of the order immediately.

On a performance-basis, it's tough to know what to expect. Garcia performed admirably in 2013, and got off to a promising start in 2014. Unfortunately, his 2014 performance consists of 34 plate appearances.

The White Sox aren't expecting a dropoff. In his first game off the disabled list, Garcia will hit behind Jose Abreu. That's a desirable job for nearly any hitter in the majors. He'll also hit behind Adam Eaton, who quietly has a .370 on-base percentage. That should give Garcia some nice RBI opportunities, at least when Abreu doesn't go deep.

Even in a best case scenario, it's tough to recommend Garcia as anything more than a reserve in mixed leagues. Outfield is deep, and there are other players on the waiver wire with better numbers than Garcia. While there's upside with Garcia, no one knows how good he can be at this point in his career. Given the choice between picking up an unknown in Garcia or a guy like Christian Yelich, a safe owner would choose Yelich almost every time.

Garcia's outlook hasn't really changed since the beginning of the season. If you liked him then, you should like him now. But given the depth in the outfield, it's tough to say owners should spring to pick him up on the waiver wire. In three outfielder leagues, he can stay out there. In anything deeper, he's definitely worth an add.

News
The return to the rotation of Henderson Alvarez for the Marlins means that rookie Brad Hand or veteran Brad Penny will be out. The decision as to which Brad will be dispatched to the bullpen has yet to be made.

Off-days will allow Mike Redmond to stall and use both in relief for a while.

"Probably just a feel thing I guess," Redmond told the Miami Herald when asked about his potential choice. "Gives us a couple days to think about it. I was hoping for one of them to really make a clear and easy decision. So do we go with a guy that has experience, or a young guy?"

Hand has performed bettery, though Penny has had just two starts. The latter yielded four runs in five innings in the second of those two outings while Hand has pitched will over his last six starts aside from a clunker on Aug. 10.

Scuffling Marlins first baseman Garrett Jones is grabbing some pine Saturday against Arizona left-hander Wade Miley

Jones is not only 12 of 63 against southpaws this season, but he's mired in a 3-for-31 slide overall in which he has hit safely in just two of his last 10 games. His .244 average is at its lowest point since May 13.
