News
One week after promoting Scott McGough to Triple-A New Orleans, the Marlins have sent him back down to the same team, per the Miami Herald.

The move was necissatated by the reinstatement of fellow right-handed reliever Andre Rienzo from the disabled list.

McGough pitched scoreless ball in two of his three appearances, but allowed three runs on five hits in two-thirds of an inning in the other.

Rienzo had been down for just over three weeks with a left knee laceration.

News
Marlins closer A.J. Ramos recorded his 23rd save of the season on Friday against the Nationals.

Ramos gave up a hit and struck out a batter while closing out the ninth inning of the 4-3 victory.

Ramos now has a 2.75 ERA this season.

News
Marlins rookie starter Justin Nicolino was excellent in his outing against the Pirates on Thusday. The young left-hander allowed two runs on six hits over six strong innings. He struggled a bit with his command, as he walked four and struck out just one. But it was still an impressive outing against a strong offense.

Nicolino was stuck with a hard-luck loss however, as the Marlins were unable to do much against Gerrit Cole. The Marlins were defeated by a score of 2-1.

Nicolino (2-2, 3.65 ERA) allowed a run to score in the second inning, and then served up a solo home run to Pedro Alvarez in the fourth. That was all the damage done against the rookie, as he was able to limit the scoring despite the control issues.

The youngster has been impressive lately. He has allowed exactly two runs in each of his last three starts, pitching into the eighth in his last two. But he has just one win over that three-start stretch.

News
Marlins starting pitcher Adam Conley earned his second win of the season on Friday against the Nationals.

Conley allowed three runs on six hits in five innings. He struck out six batters while allowing just one walk. Conley's mistakes during the outing came on a pair of home runs he allowed.

With the win, Conley improved to 2-1 on the season with a 4.96 ERA.

News
Marlins young stud starter Jose Fernandez provided some good news Thursday with a sterling bullpen session that has the team optimistic he could be back in action within two weeks, per the Miami Herald.

Fernandez has been out for three weeks with a biceps strain. His season has been limited by injury to eight starts.

"I think it went something like, wow," Dan Jennings said of the 30-pitch BP session. "I talked to (trainer Sean Cunningham) and he said it was very impressive. He said he's right on track, looks good, jumped out of his hand."

Fernandez will likely throw one more bullpen before a simulation game and return to the mound in a game.

News
Marlins starter Brad Hand was staked to a 3-0 first-inning lead, but couldn't hold on, dropping a decision to the Nationals on Sunday.

Hand couldn't make it out of the fifth, giving up eight hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings to end a two-game losing streak and drop back to .500 at 4-4.

Hand labored through 80 pitches, striking out five and walking two, but was hit hard the second time through the lineup.

News
The good news is that Marlins starter Tom Koehler walked none Saturday in Washington for the first time in his last 11 starts. The bad news is that he continued to give up plenty of hits and runs.

The other bad news is that he's now 8-13.

Koehler gave up five runs on nine hits in six innings while fanning four. Three of those hits left the yard.

Ryan Zimmerman homered in the second, then Clint Robinson and Ian Desmond took him deep in the sixth.

Koehler has yielded 30 runs over his last 39 2/3 innings to send his ERA soaring from 3.16 to 4.12.
