With Christian Yelich on the 15-day disabled list with a back injury, the Marlins could turn to Ichiro Suzuki to fill that void in left field, MLB.com reports.

Suzuki has made seven starts this season for Miami, five of which have come at right field. He is hitting .257 (9 for 35) with a triple and an RBI in 16 appearances.

Although the Marlins don't have a true backup outfielder on the roster, third baseman Martin Prado has some experience as a corner outfielder. Donovan Solano has also seen some playing time at left field back in 2012.

Marlins pitcher Dan Haren picked up a win Sunday, allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks in five innings while striking out three in his team's 6-2 victory as the Marlins finished off a sweep of the Nationals.

Haren (2-1) fell behind after surrendering a solo home run to Bryce Harper in the second inning, but he was able to hold the Nationals offense to just one more run until he exited. He's given up two runs or less in three of his four starts while putting together a 3.38 ERA and 17:8 K:BB ratio in 24 innings. Haren is scheduled to square off with the Phillies Saturday.

News
It took Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton 10 days this season to get his booming bat going. But he has certainly made up for lost time.

Stanton not only slugged his fifth homer in the last 10 games in a waltz Saturday over Washington, but he singled, doubled and walked to send his slugging percentage soaring to a season-high .569.

He was involved in the rout throughout. He doubled in a run and scored in the fourth, walked and scored in the sixth, then put the cherry on top with a 419-foot clout in the eighth.

News
Marlins starter Tom Koehler sought to rebound Saturday from a terrible last outing. He succeeded beyond all expectations.

Koehler pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings in a blowout of Washington. Not bad considering he was blasted for seven earned runs in just 3 1/3 innings Monday.

The right-hander allowed six hits, walked one and fanned four while throwing 60 of 95 pitches for strikes. He allowed multiple baserunners in the second and sixth innings, but induced groundouts on both occasions to escape the jams.

Koehler, who lowered his ERA from 6.75 to 4.50 in raising his record to 2-2, will try to take his momentum and run with it Friday against Philadelphia.

After going 12-for-24 with 10 RBIs and eight runs scored, Marlins shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria was named National League Player of the Week on Monday. He'll look to continue his run Monday against the Mets from the eighth spot in the starting lineup.

Hechavarria has not had much success against Mets starter Dillon Gee, however, going 1-for-8. Marcell Ozuna, who is batting cleanup, is hitting .417 against Gee.

News
Marlins pitcher Jarred Cosart worked eight scoreless innings in Miami's 3-1 loss to the Mets Monday. Cosart worked very efficiently, allowing just two hits throughout his start. He did not allow a baserunner to reach second base in his eight innings of work.

Despite leaving with the lead, his bullpen let him down, allowing three runs in the ninth inning, to finish with a no decision. Cosart, who remains 1-1, lowered his ERA to 2.49 on the year. He will look to get his second win of the year Sunday against the Phillies.

Marlins closer Steve Cishek had a game to forget in Miami's 3-1 loss to the Mets Monday. Cishek came on in the ninth with a 1-0 lead over the Mets, who were unable to put anything together offensively through eight innings.

Cishek allowed a lead off double to Juan Lagares before walking Lucas Duda. After forcing a pop out, Cishek gave up the big one, a three-run home run to Daniel Murphy to give New York a 3-1 lead and the eventual win.

Cishek, now 0-1 with one save, ballooned his ERA to 11.37 on the season.

Back - 15-day DL. Out until at least early May (Updated - 4/24/15)
News
An MRI on Marlins left fielder Christian Yelich showed a bulging disk in his lower back, per MLB.com.

Yelich is on the 15-day disabled list, and the team is confident that, despite the MRI findings, Yelich will be ready to return to the lineup at the end of the 15 days, in early May.

"It should be alright after a few days if I just stay on it and take care of it," Yelich said, per the Miami Herald. "We didn't really know what it was last year, what was causing it. We kind of had an idea. The MRI kind of confirmed what everybody was thinking."

"It's pretty much the same thing, slightly less [pain] this time compared to last year. It's not nearly as bad, but there's still discomfort, not a whole lot of range of motion. It just takes time. This is about day five or six now. It's starting to get a little bit looser, feel a little bit better. I have to go through all the progression stuff that will get me back on the field."

The Marlins placed catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia on paternity leave, the team announced on Friday.

To replace him on the roster, Miami called up catcher Jhonatan Solano from Triple-A New Orleans. Solano was hitting .185 with a home run and three RBI in the minors this season. He returns to the Majors for the first time since 2013, with Washington. He has a .217 average in 36 games in the bigs.

To make room for Solano on the 40-man roster, the Marlins designated LHP Grant Dayton for assignment. Dayton has been with the team since the start of his pro career in 2010. He has a 4.05 ERA in six and two thirds innings this year.

Marlins starting pitcher Mat Latos allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings on Friday for a no-decision against the Nationals.

Latos gave up six hits and struck out four in the outing.

After surrendering seven runs in 2/3 of an inning in his first start in Miami, Latos has now allowed six runs over his last 15 1/3 innings (3.58 ERA).

Latos contributed an RBI single in the game.

"Coming back here after that embarrassment, there was a lot of emotion running through that first inning," Latos said. "Every other inning seemed easier after that."

Latos is still winless and will look for his first win on Wednesday against the Mets.
