Leg - Questionable for July 24 start at Atlanta (Updated - 7/19/14)
News
Marlins pitcher Henderson Alvarez remains on track to make his next start on Thursday against the Braves in Atlanta, manager Mike Redmond told reporters on Monday, per the Sun Sentinel. Alvarez struck by a comebacker on his left shin Saturday against the Giants.

"He's been feeling better each day," Redmond said. "I haven't heard anything to be concerned about. We got lucky because it kind of caught him in between the muscle and the bone on the shin, and I think it got more muscle than bone. That's a big one for us. We can't lose anybody, but especially him."

News
Marlins pitcher Jacob Turner turned in a solid start Tuesday against the Braves.

Turner ran into trouble early, but was able to pitch around any big plays. After giving up a single with the bases loaded, Turner was able to escape the first inning after inducing a double-play. A Justin Upton home run was the only other blemish against his stat-line.

Turner tossed five innings, giving up two runs on four hits. He struck out four and walked two. The win brings Turner to 3-6 on the year. He’ll take on the Astros in his next outing.

He fell behind 5-0 after just two innings when he surrendered a three-run home run in the second frame. Eovaldi owns a 4.20 ERA and 90:26 K:BB ratio in 130 2/3 innings. He's scheduled to take on the Nationals Monday.

News
Marlins starting pitcher Brad Hand kept the damage to a minimum over seven innings Sunday vs. San Francisco on his way to his first win of the season. The left-handed hurler allowed two runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out four over seven innings in a 3-2 win.

Hand (1-2) kept the Giants scoreless for the first two innings before Buster Posey tied the game at 2 with a two-run double in the third inning. Hand, however, would bounce back to strike out the final two batters in the inning to end the threat.

He would allow just a Hunter Pence single in the fifth inning and Posey walk in the sixth inning the rest of the afternoon. Hand is expected to be back on the hill Friday at Houston.

News
Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton has homered in his first two games out of the All-Star break and credits his participation in the Home Run Derby as the reason for helping him snap his power drought.

Stanton had gone 75 plate appearances without a home run before parking his 22nd home run Friday.

"Having to lock in for the Derby made me feel better," Stanton said, per MLB.com. "I wasn't myself the last couple of weeks. The short time off and the Derby kind of helped me out. I think it will be all right."

Three Marlins players continue to be slow to recover from their respective injuries, according to the Miami Herald.

Manager Mike Redmond said reliever Kevin Gregg is unlikely to come off the disabled list when he's eligible. He has been out since July 14 due to right elbow inflammation.

Redmond added second baseman Derek Dietrich (right wrist strain) and second baseman Rafael Furcal (groin) haven't resumed baseball activities.

The Marlins are more likely to extend Casey McGehee than trade him, according to MLB.com.

McGehee's name has come up in trade rumors recently, but the club isn't inclined to deal him. McGehee is signed cheap, and still has one more year of arbitration. The club can bring him back at a higher price, or opt to hand him an extension. The team is willing to do that since McGehee is considered a leader in the clubhouse. McGehee is hitting .322/.389/.399 over 376 at-bats.
