Hand - 15-day DL. Out until at least mid-May (Updated - 4/1/14)
News
The Marlins updated the status of three injured players Monday, per MLB.com.

Second baseman Rafael Furcal (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Class A Jupiter Monday.

"The plan is for him to hopefully play every day," manager Mike Redmond said. "Hopefully, he continues to feel good. He will be there all week. The plan for him is to use all 21 days (on his rehab assignment)."

Infielder Ed Lucas (hand) has been cleared for some baseball activities.

"We’ll just kind of monitor him on how that hand is feeling," Redmond said. "We’ll see how much activity he can do day to day."

Starting pitcher Jacob Turner (shoulder) is expected to play catch Tuesday.

"He’s feeling much better than he has," Redmond said.

News
Marlins starting pitcher Jacob Turner (shoulder) is expected to throw off flat ground again Wednesday after throwing pain-free from 60 feet Tuesday, per MLB.com.

Turner, who could throw off a mound as early as this weekend, will likely make at least one rehab start before coming off the disabled list.

News
Marlins starting pitcher Jose Fernandez was back at the top of his game Wednesday against the Nationals, but got little help in a 6-3 loss.

Fernandez allowed just three unearned runs in seven innings of work, as he was tagged for a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning after a pair of errors by catcher Jarros Saltalamacchia that would have ended the inning.

Besides that one mistake pitch, Fernandez was nearly flawless. He limited the Nationals to just four hits without walking a batter, while striking out a season-high 10 batters on just 97 pitches. He settled for a no-decision as the bullpen crumbled upon his exit.

Fernandez has tossed a quality start in three of his four trips to the mound, and is 2-1 with a 2.66 ERA. He has struck out 33 batters while walking just 6 in 23 2/3 innings of work heading into his next start, Tuesday against the Braves.

News
Marlins pitcher Brad Hand only made it through three innings Monday, giving up five earned runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two in his team's 9-2 loss to the Nationals.

Hand (0-1) sat in the strike zone throughout the start, allowing the Nationals to get multiple hits in each inning of work. He owns a 6.35 ERA and 9:6 K:BB ratio in 11 1/3 innings over four appearances (two starts). Hand is scheduled to face the Mariners Sunday, but the Marlins could decide to skip his start with the team off Thursday.

Stanton kicked off the scoring with a three-run home run off Washington starter Stephen Strasburg in the first inning and stayed strong throughout. He's hit .317/.368/.635 with five home runs, 21 RBI and two stolen bases in 63 at-bats.

News
Marlins pitcher Tom Koehler gave up just one hit in seven scoreless innings while walking five and striking out three in his team's 11-2 win over the Nationals Tuesday.

Koehler (2-1) was effectively wild in the outing, keeping the Nationals from any solid contact but also dishing out five free passes and throwing just 64 of his 112 pitches for strikes. He's posted three straight quality starts while turning in a 1.89 ERA and 10:8 K:BB ratio in 19 innings. Koehler is due to take on the Braves in Atlanta Monday.

News
Marlins reliever Mike Dunn's early season struggles continued Wednesday, as he allowed the game-winning home in a 6-3 loss to the Nationals.

Dunn was unable to record even a single out, as he gave up a leadoff home run to begin the ninth inning and then walked the next batter he faced before being pulled.

Dunn is now 0-2 in seven appearances, and has allowed at least one run in four of those trips to the mound. He has a 9.53 ERA in 5 2/3 innings this season.

News
Marlins infielder Rafael Furcal continues to make progress in his recovery from a left hamstring strain, and should move up a level in his rehab assignment soon.

According to MLB.com, Furcal is expected to play Friday and Saturday for Class A Jupiter, before getting Sunday off. If he does not experience any setbacks in his recovery, he could move up to Double-A Jacksonville early next week.

News
Marlins infielder Derek Dietrich continued his hot start to the season Wednesday, clubbing his third home run of the season in a 6-3 loss to the Nationals.

Dietrich accounted for all of the team's offense in the losing effort with one swing of the bat, as he clubbed a three-run homer in the fourth inning to establish an early lead.  He finished the game 1 for 4, with a pair of strikeouts.

Dietrich has impressed early in the season, though he hasn't quite been a full-time player yet. He is hitting .286/.429/.643 in 28 at-bats, with eight RBI and eight runs scored in nine games.
