The Twins announced that right-handed pitcher Tim Stauffer has been reinstated from the disabled list and will be available for Friday’s game in Chicago against the White Sox. Stauffer missed 19 games with a right intercostal strain. He allowed three earned runs over five innings of work while rehabbing for Triple-A Rochester.

In a corresponding move, Minnesota optioned infielder Doug Bernier to Triple-A Rochester. Bernier appeared in four games, hitting .200 (1 for 5) during his stint with the big-league club.

Twins starter Ricky Nolasco moved to 4-1 on the season with a win over Pittsburgh on Tuesday. 

Nolasco gave up 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings, giving up four runs--three earned. He walked one batter and struck out eight. 

"I felt good getting back to that feeling where I can strike guys out when I want to," Nolasco said,per MLB.com. "It's nice getting all those runs with us having good at-bats. All I was trying to do was get us back to the dugout as quick as possible."

Nolasco threw 62 strikes in 93 pitches and lowered his ERA to 6.00. His next start is Monday against Boston.

Twins pitcher Ervin Santana reported to extended spring training last week in Fort Myers, Fla., according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Santana, who is currently serving an 80-game suspension for testing positive for steroids, is eligible for return on July 4 and is using the time to get his body in shape. Santana has throw a couple of bullpen sessions and is expected to throw live batting practice next week, according to MLB.com.He will throw extended spring training before heading to Triple-A Rochester for preparation.

General manager Terry Ryan doesn't believe Santana will need more than three rehab starts to get back with the team. Santana posted a 14-10 record with a 3.95 ERA in 196 innings in 2014.

Twins pitcher Mike Pelfrey didn't factor into the decision on Wednesday, giving up one earned run on five hits in six innings while striking out five and walking none in his team's 4-3, 13-inning win over the Pirates.

Pelfrey allowed an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning after being staked to a 3-0 lead, and he was able to keep the score at 3-1 by the time he left. However, the Pirates were able to tie the game in the eighth inning, preventing the starter from picking up what would have been his fourth win.

Pelfrey owns a 3.00 ERA and 22:15 K:BB ratio in 45 innings. He's scheduled to face the Red Sox at home on Tuesday.

A couple of injured Twins players are getting close to a return to the club.

Right-hander Casey Fien, who is on the disabled list with a shoulder injury, is expected to make a rehab appearance on Saturday for Triple-A Rochester, according to MLB.com. Fien threw a bullpen session on Wednesday, and once no issues were reported, he was cleared for the rehab assignment. 

Outfielder Oswaldo Arcia, who has been out of action with a hip injury, is scheduled to begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A on Sunday. 

The team has not revealed when they expect either player to return to the club, but as long as there are no setbacks in their rehabs, it should not be long before they are back.

Arcia, who is currently on the 15-day DL with a hip injury, is expected to get on the field this week to do more baseball activities. Arcia has been able to take some swings and hit in the cages. He has been out since May 3 and is hitting .276 with eight RBI in 58 at-bats this season.

Twins first baseman Joe Mauer went 2 for 6 with a solo home run in his team's 4-3, 13-inning win over the Pirates on Wednesday.

Mauer's 13th-inning home run put his team ahead before closer Glen Perkins slammed the door in the bottom half of the inning. It was the first home run of the season for Mauer, who has put together a five-game hit streak and has collected five RBI in his last three games.

"I was just waiting until we played the 13th to do it," Mauer said, per MLB.com. "I knew I hit it well. I was just hoping it was high enough with that high wall out there. I'm glad it came in a big spot."

Mauer's hitting .284/.341/.381 with 24 RBI in 155 at-bats.

Twins closer Glen Perkins earned his 15th save on Wednesday, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one in a scoreless 13th inning to finish off his team's 4-3 win over the Pirates.

Perkins wasn't at his best on Wednesday and also uncorked a wild pitch in the outing, but he was able to strike out Pedro Alvarez with men on first and second to end the game. He owns a 1.40 ERA and 19:1 K:BB ratio in 19 1/3 innings.

Twins pitcher Phil Hughes gave up two earned runs in Friday evening's 3-2 loss to the White Sox. 

It was a mixed bag for Hughes, who kept the run total low but did give up eight hits. He struck out three batters and walked one. This is the third game in his last four that he's allowed at least eight hits. 

Hughes now has an ERA of 4.50 this season. 

His next start is projected for May 27 against the Red Sox.
