Elbow - 15-day DL. 15-day DL. On Class A rehab assignment (Updated - 4/26/15)
News
Twins pitcher Ricky Nolasco was able to throw five innings with 66 pitches in his rehab start for Class-A Cedar Rapids Sunday, according to the team.

Nolasco, who is currently on the 15-day DL with an elbow injury, said he felt good after the outing. Nolasco has appeared in just one game this season for Minnesota, posting an 0-1 record with four walks and two strikeouts in three innings of work.

Twins manager Paul Molitor said he would discuss Nolasco's status with GM Terry Ryan.

"Ricky threw the ball well," Molitor said. "Velocity was 91-93, settled in around 92 and had no physical restraint, so [a decision is] going to be coming around here pretty soon."

Twins reliever Tim Stauffer admits that he's not "where I'd like to be at this point in the year," per TwinCities.com.

Through five appearances, Stauffer has a 9.00 ERA.

"I’ve always been a little bit of a slow starter," he said. "Obviously, I don’t want to make any excuses. I’d like to be able to go out there and get in a groove. I really don’t feel like I’ve hit that groove quite yet."

Stauffer said that his changeup "is still not where I want it to be".

News
Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings of work in Minnesota's 4-2 win over the Mariners Sunday.

Gibson worked efficiently through his start, with only one issue coming in the fourth inning. Gibson allowed a lead off home run to Seth Smith over the right field wall to get things started. Then after two batters reached base, Logan Morrison picked up an RBI on a groundout to third base. He finished off strong, with three strikeouts and three walks, but remains 1-2 on the year.

Gibson now boasts a 4.84 ERA and will look to get his second win Friday against the White Sox.

Arm - Questionable for April 30 start vs. Chicago White Sox (Updated - 4/25/15)
News
Twins pitcher Trevor May was forced to leave Saturday's game against the Mariners after taking a line driver off his arm, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

With one out in the third, May gave up a liner to third baseman Kyle Seager, who ripped it right back to him. May tried to stay in the game, but was replaced by Tim Stauffer. He allowed two runs on three hits with five strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings against Seattle.

"It was one of the few spots near the elbow where it is OK to get hit by a ball and it just looks like a little bruising," May said to the Star Tribune. "At that point, I just wanted to make a play and then deal with it after."

X-rays were negative and May is considered day-to-day with the injury.

News
The lights-out performance by Twins right-hander Mike Pelfrey in Kansas City on Wednesday seemingly came out of nowhere. But not to him. He believes regaining his health after season-ending elbow surgery in 2014 is a key to his success.

The 31-year-old Pelfrey insisted through spring training that he was healthy, but it took the suspension of teammate Ervin Santana to move him from the bullpen into the rotation. The rest is history - Pelfrey has pitched better in every start. He peaked by tossing seven innings of five-hit shutout ball against the hot Royals to lower his ERA to 2.65.

"I think going ino the offsdason, I was at a crossroads at my career," he told MLB.com. "I busted my tail to come back. I wanted to be a starting pitcher. It didn't happen the way I envisioned it, but I'm thankful to get this opportunity and I hope I can run with it."

Pelfrey had not thrown seven innings without allowing an earned run since Aug. 27, 2010. His victory Wednesday broke a stretch of 13 consecutive winless starts.

As cold as Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe was to start the season, that's how hot he's been since.

Plouffe was batting a mere .133 with one RBI through nine games. He is 10-for-23 in six games since with two doubles, one homer, two RBI and an on-base percentage of .480. How does he explain that? Discipline at the plate.

"I think that's a product of laying off borderline pitches and getting myself into better counts," he told MLB.com. "If the pitcher sees you swinging at those borderline pitches, he's just going to continue to throw those and you're not going to have great at-bats. So if you're able to shrink the zone down, that helps. And when I'm going well, that's what I do."

Plouffe led the Twins with 80 RBI last year.

News
Twins manager Paul Molitor is looking for a spark at the top of the batting order. He thinks that spark may be in his top player, Joe Mauer, according to MLB.com.

"I had him potentially doing that," Molitor said. "I had him also hitting second behind [Brian] Dozier. There were points made regarding Dozier's propensity to be able to score runs last year and Joe hit behind him quite a bit, so we talked about different combinations of how to get those guys in there."

Mauer has never hit lead off in his career.

"You can go to your sabermetrics experts and a lot of times they're going to come up with Joe at the top of the lineup, and I understand that. How that would play in terms of him getting a chance to get hits with men in scoring position and do some other things that he's been doing pretty well, I'm not sure."

Mauer is hitting .271 with five RBI in 59 at-bats this season.

Escobar did his only damage in the fourth inning when he ripped a 3-2 pitch off James Paxton over the left center field wall for a solo home run, his first of the season. Escobar, who also struck out twice, boosted his average to .171 in 35 at-bats this season.

News
Twins starting pitcher Phil Hughes had his finest start of the season Friday at Seattle and was deserving of his first win. Unfortunately, Hughes was opposing Mariners ace Felix Hernandez, who was just that much better in a 2-0 win for Seattle.

Hughes (0-4) allowed just two runs on six hits and no walks in eight innings, while striking out nine. However, Hernandez threw a five-hit, complete-game shutout. He also had nine strikeouts.

Hughes' only mistakes Friday were solo home runs to Nelson Cruz and Logan Morrison. Despite the loss, he lowered his ERA from 5.30 to 4.39.

The right-hander had his fourth-career complete game Friday. He will look for his first win in his next scheduled start Wednesday vs. Detroit.
