Twins right-hander Kyle Gibson had one of the finest outings of his young career on Thursday. Gibson held the Royals scoreless over eight innings in the 2-0 win. He struck out seven and walked four, as he evened his record to 6-6.

Gibson worked around a high amount of baserunners, but he managed to avoid any serious damage. The fine outing lowered his ERA to 3.04. Gibson has allowed three runs or fewer in four consecutive starts.

News
The odd man out of the rotation upon the return of suspended Ervin Santana on Sunday is Trevor May.

May has been arguably the team's best starter lately. He owns a 4.37 ERA with 18 walks and 71 strikeouts in 80 1/3 innings this season, but boasts a 3.23 ERA since June 1.

His stay in the bullpen - or with the Twins - might not last. Paul Molitor has declared that May could be moved back into a starting role at Triple-A Rochester after the All-Star break.

"Trevor was great [Friday] when I told him about it," Molitor told the team website. "We have to decide long-term to see how that works out or if going into a rotation down below would help us in case something happened to one of our guys."

News
Twins right-hander Mike Pelfrey came away with another disappointing outing on Saturday. Pelfrey lasted just four-plus innings against the Royals. He allowed three runs on seven hits, while walking three and striking out three. Pelfrey was able to escape with a no-decision, however, as the Twins held on to beat the Royals 5-3.

The Twins staked Pelfrey to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, and he was able to keep the Royals off the board for the first four innings. But, after the Twins tacked on another run, Pelfrey allowed the first three men to face him in the fifth to reach base before Lorenzo Cain singled in a pair. Pelfrey was then lifted for a reliever, but another run would come into score before the inning was over.

"I thought my stuff was way too good to not get anybody out in the fifth," Pelfrey said, per MLB.com. "I thought I had good stuff but didn't execute pitches in there in the fifth. But the bullpen picked me up and the offense scored another run and we were able to win. So I need to be better, but these guys picked me up."

Pelfrey's ERA sits at 3.94 now, and he has allowed 11 runs over six innings in his last two starts.
