News
Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson felt "encouraged" by a long-toss session of 120 feet on Friday, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Gibson was scratched from Saturday's start because of a back issue. He tossed 10-15 pitches in the bullpen, and will throw a bullpen session Saturday, per MLB.com. Barring any setbacks, he could return to the rotation as early as Tuesday against the Royals in Kansas City.

Twins catcher Kurt Suzuki, who is arguably enjoying his strongest season since 2009, is getting eyed by the Cardinals and Orioles, per CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

Cardinals starting catcher Yadier Molina and Baltimore counterpart Matt Wieters are out for the season. Suzuki has proven to be one of the premier clutch hitters among major league catchers this season. He boasts a strong stat line of .308/.367/.393 while playing quite well behind the plate.

It was a classic too-little, too-late blast, but Twins left fielder Josh Willingham did go deep Friday night against the White Sox. He launched his 10th in the ninth inning, a solo job that merely ended the scoring in a 9-5 loss.

Willingham added a single and scored two runs in sweetening his stat line to .213/.354/.421.

News
Twins pitcher Kevin Correia was blasted by the White Sox Friday.

Correia ran into trouble almost immediately. After giving up two singles to open the game, Correia allowed a three run home run to Jose Abreu to break things open. After a scoreless second inning, Alexei Ramirez took Correia deep for a solo shot to open the third. Gordon Beckham would also plate a run on an error. Correia would allow two additional runs to score in the fourth inning before leaving the game.

Correia allowed seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits over four innings of work. He walked two and did not record any strikeouts. With the loss, Correia dropped to 5-13 on the year. He will take on the Royals in his next start.

Twins outfielder Danny Santana provided the lone offensive contribution in the team's 5-2 loss to the White Sox Thursday.

Santana had just one hit in the game, but he made it count, clubbing a two-run home run in the eighth inning in a failed effort to spark a rally. He went 1 for 3 overall with one strikeout in addition to his two RBI.

Santana hasn't provided much power this season, as he is hitting .325/.361/.465 with three home runs in 157 at-bats.

Twins right-hander Anthony Swarzak had not started a game since Oct. 2, 2012. But he certainly didn't pitch like starting was so foreign to him Wednesday against visiting Cleveland.

Swarzak raised his record to 2-0 by throwing 74 pitches in five innings and giving up one run on two hits. He walked one and struck out three. He is expected to return to the bullpen after taking the place of Kyle Gibson for the one start.

Shin - Questionable for July 30 start at Kansas City (Updated - 7/24/14)
News
Ron Gardenhire has expressed optimism that Twins right-hander Phil Hughes will make his next start despite taking a shot to the shin Thursday off the bat of Adam Dunn. That would be Tuesday or Wednesday in Kansas City as the Minnesota rotation has been a bit jumbled.

Hughes could certainly use a shot in the arm instead of one to the shin. He has yielded 12 earned runs on 25 hits in his last 15 innings pitched to send his ERA soaring to 4.10, its highest point since May 4.
