Yankees closer David Robertson needed only 12 pitches to retire the final four batters to close out a 6-3 win over Toronto on Friday. He struck out one for his 35th save. He owns a 2.98 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP over 51 1/3 innings of relief.

News
Yankees pitcher Hiroki Kuroda was at the top of his game Thursday against the Tigers, but did not get much help as he was forced to settle for a no-decision in a 3-2 loss.

Kuroda limited the Tigers to two runs over seven strong innings of work, but had to settle for a no-decision as the offense failed to back him up. He scattered four hits and a walk over his seven innings of work, while striking out four batters in the no-decision.

Kuroda is just 2-2 over his last six starts, despite allowing three or fewer earned runs in each start. He carried a 3.88 ERA and 9-8 record into his next start, set for Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Yankees pitcher Chris Capuano bounced back with the win Friday night against the Blue Jays in Toronto, improving to 2-3 on the year. The left-hander permitted three runs -- two earned -- on eight hits and one walk while striking out four over 6 1/3 innings of a 6-3 win.

Capuano has allowed three runs in each of his last two starts. He owns a 4.24 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP over 74 1/3 innings. His next start will come Thursday at home against Boston.

News
Martin Prado is one of the hottest hitters in baseball right now, batting .417 (15 for 36) with three home runs and six doubles in his last nine games. The good news is a high number of his Fantasy owners have benefited from it since he's been labeled a "start" in the Start and Sit Hitters column the last two weeks. The bad news is he's only gotten that label because of favorable matchups.

It's a chicken-and-egg scenario. Has Prado legitimately turned the corner, or is he just taking advantage of favorable matchups?.

You tell me. For the season, he's batting .351 with a .991 OPS against lefties compared to .253 and .640 against righties. The Yankees have faced five left-handed starting pitchers in their last nine games, and two of Prado's three home runs during that stretch have come against lefties. The other came against James Shields, who clearly didn't have his A-game Monday night.

In those nine games, Prado has struck out seven times in 36 at-bats, about once every five at-bats. That's even worse than his season rate, which is already a career worst. He hasn't walked even once.

Enjoy it while it lasts, but I'm thinking once the left-handers thin out, so does Prado's production.

News
It's becoming a pattern. Shane Greene starts, goes six strong, strikes out more than a batter per inning, and we're all left to figure out what it means.

There comes a point when evaluating a player, like with Jacob deGrom a few months back, when you can no longer rely on what he did in the minors. You look at what he's throwing, see what results from it and reassess from there.

I can't think of a better comparison than deGrom, really. As he worked his way up the minors, I wasn't impressed, but then when I saw how hard he threw, I decided to keep an open mind. And then came the strikeouts -- one start after another -- just like Greene.

Greene has made nine starts now, and in five of them, he's allowed two earned runs or fewer. But that means in four, he's allowed three earned runs or more. While the highs have been high, the lows have still been there. He had a three-start stretch in the middle of those nine in which he allowed 10 earned runs in 15 2/3 innings. And then there was the nine hits in five innings he allowed to the White Sox prior to Wednesday's gem at Detroit.

So while I'd like to assume he'll be two earned runs, eight strikeouts every time out, the inconsistency is why I still view Greene as more of a streaming option, but one whose stock is clearly on the rise.

Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury homered but injured his ankle in Friday's win over the Blue Jays.

Ellsbury launched a two-run home run in the seventh inning. He suffered the injury while sliding at home plate in the ninth inning. After the game, he had a fluoroscope on his left ankle, which came back "OK," per YES Network.

Ellsbury went 2 for 5 with a run scored and two RBI in a 6-3 victory. He owns a .286/.347/.431 with 14 homers and 64 RBI over 503 at-bats.

News
Yankees pitcher Brandon McCarthy had a tough start Tuesday against the Tigers.

McCarthy allowed five runs on nine hits over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out five and walked two during the outing. Detroit was able to chip away at McCarthy throughout the start. He ran into some unusual control issues in the second inning. McCarthy walked and hit a batter en route to loading the bases. He then walked in a run. Another run came across on a single the following inning. McCarthy was able to get through the next two innings without giving up a run. The Tigers led off the sixth hitting a single, double and a run-scoring single. A double-play brought in the second run of the inning. McCarthy was pulled after giving up another run-scoring single in the seventh.

With the loss, McCarthy fell to 8-13. He’ll take on the Blue Jays in his next start.
