After visiting three different doctors, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told reporters that pitcher Masahiro Tanaka has been diagnosed with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing arm, the New York Daily News reports.

Tanaka is expected to receive a PRP injection Monday and has been recommended throwing program. Although Tommy John surgery has not been ruled out, Cashman expects Tanaka to be back in six weeks, if the rehab program is effective.

"That's our hope. Obviously timeframes are subject to change," Cashman said.

News
Yankees reliever Shawn Kelley, who's pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings the last two days, said he feels like he did before a back injury sent him to the disabled list.

"The first handful of outings, there was still some concern about my back," he told The Journal News. "It felt fine, but when you walk around for a month and you can barely bend over, it tends to get ingrained in your mind. I’ve had a few weeks now straight where I haven’t had to wake up in the morning thinking about my back, and I think that’s allowed me to get back to where I was before I got hurt."

Kelley is 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA and four saves in five chances.

Yankees catcher Brian McCann has responded to former hitting coach Terry Pendleton and his claim that he is not cut out to play in New York.

"It's his opinion," he told NJ.com. "That's all that I can say. It's his opinion."

McCann added that he loves the city and that Pendleton was wrong that he was overwhelmed at living up to a five-year, $85 million contract.

He has certainly performed better recently. McCann has seven hits in his last four games.

News
Yankees pitcher Brandon McCarthy gave up one earned run in his debut with the club Wednesday.

McCarthy found himself in some trouble early on. After Carlos Santana reached on an error, the Indians managed to drive in three runs. None of those runs were officially charged to McCarthy due to the error. McCarthy settled in after that, posted three straight scoreless innings before allowing another run in the fifth.

McCarthy allowed four runs, one earned, on nine hits over 6 2/3 innings in his team debut. Josh Tomlin also gave up four runs, so McCarthy did not factor into the decision. It’s unclear where McCarthy will slot into the team’s rotation following the All-Star break.
