News
Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez celebrated his 40th birthday in style during Monday's 6-2 win over the Rangers.

Rodriguez hit his 24th home run of the season off Matt Harrison in the sixth inning. The solo shot was his only hit in five at-bats during the contest.

Prior to Monday's win, Rodriguez was hitting .286 with seven home runs and 11 RBI in his last 11 games.

News
Making just his third appearance of his young career, Yankees right-hander Diego Moreno was outstanding in his outing on Tuesday. Moreno was brought in to clean up Chris Capuano's mess, after he allowed five runs to score in the first inning.

Moreno wound up going 5 1/3 scoreless innings. He did not gave up a hit, as he walked one batter and struck out five. Meanwhile, the Yankees' offense exploded for 21 runs, giving Moreno his first career win.

This outing was the longest of Moreno's short career, as he had totaled two innings combined over his first two games. He was just recalled from Triple-A prior to the game, and was able to completely shut down the Rangers offense in the middle innings.

It remains to be seen if Moreno has a long-term role with the Yankees, or if he will be sent back down to the minors in favor of a fresh bullpen arm.

News
Yankees starter Nathan Eovaldi has been bailed out by the bats often this year, which explains his 9-2 record despite a 4.43 ERA heading into his Sunday outing in Minnesota. He had allowed 127 hits in just 103 2/3 innings.

Eovaldi is now halfway to 20 wins, but not just because of offensive support. He performed quite well in shutting down the Twins. He surrendered two runs on five hits in eight innings with one walk and five strikeouts.

It wasn't until the fifth that the Yankees scored a run for him. He had fallen behind in the third on two singles and a groundout, then yielded another after his departure in the ninth when Miguel Sano, who had doubled, tallied a meaningless run.

Eovaldi has not allowed more than three runs in a start since June 16. But had not been extended into the seventh inning since June 10.

News
Yankees outfielder Chris Young put the hammer down, as he connected on his fourth career grand slam in Tuesday's 21-5 thrashing of the Rangers. Young took Rangers pitcher Wandy Rodriguez deep in the third inning to stretch the Yankees' lead to 15-5.

Young, who also doubled twice, finished the game 3 for 5 with five RBI. He also scored four runs in the rout. The home run was his 12th of the year.

It wasn't all pretty for Young however, as had the misfortune of striking out looking against Adam Rosales--a position player--in the ninth inning.

Still, Young had a huge night, as the five RBI matches his career-high.

A great effort by a new pitcher could result in New York being dubbed "Cotham City."

The Yankees have indeed promoted right-handed reliever Caleb Cotham from Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre. Cotham has lowered his ERA with that team to 1.37. He has allowed just 35 hits in 45 2/3 innings this season with 53 strikeouts.

Arm Fatigue - Questionable for August 2 start at Chicago White Sox (Updated - 7/29/15)
News
Yankees starter Ivan Nova provided a positive report after leaving his last start with arm fatigue. He expects to make his next start Sunday against the host White Sox.

"I'm not hurt or anything like that, so there isn't any reason to think that I'm not going to pitch," he told the New York Daily News. "...I feel good."

Nova was removed from his last start after throwing 75 pitches. Joe Girardi confirmed that he was dealing with some fatigue in his triceps area. His outing was only his sixth since returning from Tommy John surgery.

News
Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius had a big night at the plate in Tuesday's 21-5 torching of the Rangers. Gregorius went 4 for 5 with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored. He drove in all three runs with a bases-clearing triple as part of an 11-run onslaught in the second inning.

This was the first four-hit game in Gregorius' career. The impressive performance lifted his season average up to .257, and he has rather quietly been hitting very well lately. Over his last 10 games, Gregorius is batting .412 with a home run and nine RBI.

News
Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner had a big night at the plate on Tuesday, as he went 3 for 4 in the 21-5 demolishing of the Rangers. Gardner singled twice, homered, drove in three runs and scored five.

For good measure, he hit a two-run home run, his 11th of the year, with the Yankees already leading by 14 runs in the ninth inning. The home run came off Adam Rosales, a position player.

The five runs scored is a career-high for Gardner.

Despite the lop-sided score, Yankees pitcher Adam Warren recorded his first save of the season in Tuesday's 21-5 thrashing of the Rangers. Warren pitched the final three innings of the game, which credits him with the save regardless of the score.

Warren, who was ousted from the rotation in late June, pitched three perfect innings on Tuesday. He now has five saves in his four-year career with the Yankees.

Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka had a rough go of it in his start against the Rangers on Wednesday. The right-hander allowed four runs on nine hits over six innings. He walked three and struck out three, throwing 64 of his 103 pitches for strikes in the 5-2 loss.

Tanaka (7-4, 3.80 ERA) was given a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but he gave the lead right back as the Rangers scored three in the bottom half.

In five starts this month, Tanaka went 3-1 with a 3.67 ERA.

Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran snapped a 16-game homerless drought when he smacked a solo blast in the second inning of Wednesday's game against the Rangers. The home run, his eighth of the year, gave the Yankees an early 1-0 lead, but it wouldn't last as the Rangers topped the Yankees 5-2.

Beltran went 1 for 4 on the night, and he is 5 for 26 since returning from the disabled list on July 19.
