The Yankees have opted to give struggling veteran pitcher CC Sabathia a few more days off before his next start. Manager Joe Girardi announced Friday that Sabathia will be pushed back to Wednesday against the Athletics.

Sabathia was originally scheduled to start Sunday against the Rays. Ivan Nova will start Sunday for New York.

"It's up to them," Sabathia said, per The Journal News. "Whatever they think is best is the schedule that I'm following. It is what it is."

The home run was Teixeria's 20th of the season, giving him at least 20 dingers in all but one season of his 13-year career.

Teixeira has been struggling at the plate, as even with the 2 for 4 effort on Friday, he is batting .222 with nine strikeouts over his last 10 games.

News
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday that removing Adam Warren from the rotation was based more on limiting his workload than performance, per ESPN.

Up until 2015, Warren had never logged more than 78 2/3 innings at the MLB level. He is already at 82 2/3 innings this season.

"We have to manage his innings," Cashman said. "He's pitched great but we're giving him a timeout. It doesn't mean he's out of the rotation for good. We're giving him a breather and if somebody gets hurt, he automatically goes back in."

News
Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka showed improvement in his outing on Friday, but still took a no-decision in the extra-innings victory over the Rays. Tanaka allowed three runs on six hits over six innings, walking one and striking out five.

Tanaka, whose ERA rose to 3.94, gave up two runs in the first inning to put his team down early. But the Yankees' offense was able to rally back late in the game to get Tanaka off the hook.

Tanaka had allowed 11 earned runs over his last two starts, so Friday was certainly a step in the right direction. Since returning from the disabled list on June 3, Tanaka has a 4.37 ERA in 37 innings pitched.

Knee - 15-day DL. On Class A rehab assignment. (Updated - 7/2/15)
News
Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury was scratched from the Tampa Yankees's lineup on Thursday, as he temporarily put the brakes on his rehab assignment. Ellsbury, who is recovering from a sprained knee, was able to play in the field on Wednesday after being rested on Tuesday.

Despite being scratched, the Yankees aren't overly worried about Ellsbury's progress, the New York Post reports.

"He is going through a spring-training-game-like-progression with all the sprints, and … slowly getting his legs back. All good," general manager Brian Cashman said. "We will see him soon after we finish him off properly."

Ellsbury will not be activated on Friday, according to ESPN.com. There is currently no updated timetable for his return to the big club.
