Yankees pitcher Hiroki Kuroda turned in a strong start Friday against the Blue Jays.

Kuroda allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and did not issue any walks during the outing. Kuroda got himself in trouble during the first inning. After a leadoff double, Kuroda gave up a two-run blast against Edwin Encarnacion. He would settle in over the next three innings, but allowed another run in the fifth. After a throwing error put a runner on third, Kuroda gave up a run-scoring groundout. Since the run scored due to the error, it was unearned.

With the win, Kuroda improved to 11-9. He’ll take on the Orioles in his next start.

Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda took a loss Tuesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings while striking out five in his team's 6-1 defeat against the Rays.

Pineda (3-5) tossed four scoreless innings before the Rays broke through with a run on an error in the fifth. The second run against the starter came on a bunt single in the sixth with runners on the corners. Pineda owns a 2.15 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 41:6 K:BB ratio in 62 2/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the Orioles Monday.

Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka is tentatively scheduled to start Sunday against the Blue Jays, manager Joe Girardi told reporters Tuesday.

Tanaka, who is working his way back from a partially torn UCL, saw game action for the first time since July 8 Monday. Assuming he avoids any issues or setbacks in the intervening time, Tanaka is set to have a 70-to 75-pitch limit for the start.

McCarthy allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings. He struck out four and walked one during the outing. McCarthy looked good to open the start, tossing three scoreless frames to open the game. He allowed his first run in the fourth inning. With two outs, Evan Longoria belted a solo home run against McCarthy. After a scoreless fifth inning, Longoria struck again in the sixth. This time, Longoria brought in a run on a ground out. 

With the win, McCarthy improved to 10-14. He’ll take on the Orioles in his next start.

The Yankees finish up a road trip Wednesday and will join Beltran in New York Thursday, though it's unknown if he'll be available to play. Manager Joe Girardi indicated that Beltran can take as much time as he needs to attend to the matter.
