Concussion - 15-day DL. On Triple-A rehab assignment (Updated - 4/30/15)
News
Yankees shortstop Jose Pirela began his Triple-A rehab assignment with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Pirela went 1 for 4 with an RBI double in a game against Charlotte. Hitting leadoff, Pirela also drew a walk. His overall body of work during his complete rehab stint has been troublesome, however, as he's now 2-18 from the plate.

Pirela sustained a concussion during spring training and was placed on the disabled list.

Calf - 15-day DL. Out until at least early May (Updated - 5/1/15)
News
Yankees infielder Brendan Ryan suffered a pulled hamstring while on his rehab assignment for an injured calf, manager Joe Girardi said Sunday per NJ.com.

Ryan, who is currently on the 15-day DL with the calf injury, has yet to make an appearance this season with New York due to a litany of injuries.

"He was running yesterday and his hammy grabbed, a little bit," Girardi said. "So I think he's shut down for a week."

He's expected to be re-evaluated in a week to decide what the next step will be.

News
Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner isn't surprised by Alex Rodriguez's approach this season.

"He’s been all business since he’s been back," Gardner said, per the Journal News. "Last year, obviously, was very, very tough for him, and tough for a lot of people, but I think ever since he’s come back he’s been all about working hard and trying to help the team win."

That's in keeping with what Gardner has seen from A-Rod in the time the two have been teammates.

"I’ve had a chance over the last eight or nine years to really see behind the scenes and what goes into his preparation for the game, and the way that he works in the offseason. He doesn’t need to go out of his way to try to win me over," Gardner said.

Quadriceps - 15-day DL. On Class A rehab assignment (Updated - 5/3/15)
News
Yankees pitcher Chris Capuano began a rehab assignment with high Class A Tampa Saturday, giving up just one unearned run on two hits in four innings while striking out four and walking none.

Capuano hasn't pitched during the regular season, as he was pulled from a spring-training game on March 11 due to a quadriceps strain. He will likely slot into the rotation when healthy.

News
Yankees starter Nathan Eovaldi (2-0) allowed two runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings on Saturday to earn the victory against the Red Sox.

"I thought he pitched in extremely well," catcher Brian McCann said. "When he pitches in, they have to cheat to that. Once they start cheating, they have to start expanding. He pitched to both sides of the plate effectively, and had them off balance. ... I think he's getting better and better, I really do."

The damage off Eovaldi came via a solo homer from Dustin Pedroia and an RBI double from Mookie Betts.

"I didn't think they were that bad today," Eovaldi said. "When we were at home with the Mets, they were a lot worse. I was like, 'Wow, we're at home!' New York-New York."

Eovaldi's next start is set for Thursday against the Orioles.

Teixeira has gotten off to a great start in the power department, slugging nine home runs in his first 24 games. But he's just over .200 on the year and has just seven hits in his last 35 at-bats.

Garrett Jones was given the start at first base on Monday, and was batting seventh in the lineup.

Forearm - 15-day DL. Out until at least mid-May (Updated - 4/29/15)
News
The Yankees are not concerned that ace Masahiro Tanaka is going down the same path as last year, which was cut short in July due to an elbow injury.

His latest MRI looks as good or better than the one taken a year ago, a source has told CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. And since there is little concern about his forearm, Tanaka was unhappy about being placed on the disabled list with that issue. He figured his also-ailing wrist would quickly heal and he would miss just one start.

Tanaka was off to a solid start and been improving as the early part of the season has progressed. He surrendered just one run in 13 1/3 innings with 14 strikeouts over his last two outings.

Yankees pitcher Adam Warren allowed four runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings of work in New York's 8-5 win over the Red Sox on Sunday.

Warren did not find any issues until the sixth inning when he allowed four straight hitters to reach base safely after getting two outs. Warren allowed an RBI double to David Ortiz and then an RBI single to Pablo Sandoval before getting the hook.

Warren, now 2-1, moved his ERA to 4.78 with 14 strikeouts in 26 1/3 innings of work. He will look to keep rolling Friday against the Orioles.

Yankees reliever Dellin Betances faced and struck out the final four Red Sox batters Saturday to earn his first save of the season.

Betances, the Yankees' setup man, filled in for usual closer Andrew Miller, who's pitched in four of the Yankees' last six games.

"I feel good, I feel comfortable," Betances said. "I feel like I'm going out there with a game plan and trying to make pitches."

"He's elite," Yankees catcher Brian McCann said. "He's the standard ... he's got two unbelievable pitches. No one wants to face him."

News
Yankees closer Andrew Miller worked a nearly perfect ninth inning in New York's 8-5 win over the Red Sox on Sunday, earning his 10th save of the year.

After walking Allen Craig to lead off the inning, Miller struck out two in Xander Bogaerts and Blake Swihart. Then, Miller put two more runners on base to load the bases for David Ortiz. Miller worked to a full count before Ortiz to flyout to end the game.

"The hitter he had to get out who has so many times beat the Yankees and has had big hits for them," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "It shows he has the stomach for it."

Miller maintained his perfect 0.00 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings of work.

"There's still a long way to go, but you can't feel any better than that," said Miller. "He's got a flare for the dramatic. That's been the most important part of his career. It's not how I drew it up and wanted to do it."

Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran will return to the starting lineup Sunday against the Red Sox, batting sixth and playing right.

Beltran got the day off Saturday after struggling at the plate early on this season, according to NJ.com.

"I don't know if [when] you're that old, you press," manager Joe Girardi said. "Is there a difference between frustration and pressing? I don't know. I think there's frustration and maybe he's trying a little bit too hard, but I thought he was pretty relaxed the other day."

Beltran came through for New York Friday with a double and two RBI.

"A lot of it has to do with pitch selection," Girardi said. "Sometimes it can be a little bit mechanical. I think it was sometimes part of that early on...but I think that's probably corrected."
