News
With the Athletics facing a lefty on Thursday, right fielder Josh Reddick will slide down to the seventh spot in the batting order against the Yankees. This will be the lowest Reddick has batted this season.

While overall Reddick has been very productive at the plate, he has struggled against southpaws. Reddick has just one hit in six at-bats (a triple) against left-handers this year.

He had been batting third for most of the season, but Ben Zobrist has occupied that spot each of the last three games since returning from the disabled list.

News
Athletics starter Jesse Chavez fell to 1-5 on the year with a loss, Tuesday, to Detroit.

Chavez lost his third straight decision in hard-luck fashion. He allowed one unearned run over eight innings, while his teammates were shut out.

"Just tried to take it inning by inning and every at-bat by at-bat," Chavez said, per MLB.com. "I didn't really look into it as, 'Oh, this is my best start of my career,' or anything like that. Just tried to give the guys a good chance to win and try to get them in as quick as possible."

Chavez allowed five hits and walked two, striking out four. His next start is Sunday, against the Yankees.

Lawrie was able to tie the game with his sixth-inning shot off Yankees starter CC Sabathia. It was his first home run in more than a month, as his last homer came on April 28. The third baseman has hit .266/.296/.362 with three home runs, 18 RBI and two stolen bases in 177 at-bats.

Shoulder - 15-day DL. On Triple-A rehab assignment (Updated - 5/28/15)
News
Athletics left-handed reliever Eric O'Flaherty is scheduled to make another rehab outing on Saturday. And, if that outing goes well, it could be his last before being activated from the 15-day disabled list, according to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. The team has not revealed when they expect O'Flaherty to officially be activated.

O'Flaherty has been out since the end of April with a shoulder injury, and his return would be a big boost to an Oakland bullpen that collectively has the highest ERA in the American League.

Athletics center fielder Billy Burns went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and a solo home run in his team's 5-4 win over the Yankees.

Burns put his team on the board with a fifth-inning homer after the team had fell behind 3-0. The Athletics were able to scrape together four more runs in the next two innings, with Burns scoring the last run in the seventh inning to give his team a two-run lead.

In line for significant playing time with Coco Crisp sidelined for the foreseeable future, Burns has hit .302/.356/.417 with two home runs, three RBI and seven stolen bases in 96 at-bats.

Athletics closer Tyler Clippard picked up his fifth save on Thursday despite allowing one earned run on one hit and one walk in his team's 5-4 win over the Yankees.

Clippard was able to get two quick outs before issuing a walk and following up the free pass by surrendering an RBI double. The next batter gave the ball a ride to center field, but it settled into the glove of center fielder Billy Burns for the final out of the game.

Clippard owns a 2.57 ERA and 17:12 K:BB ratio in 21 innings. The A's could turn to Sean Doolittle in the ninth inning soon.

News
Athletics pitcher Sean Doolittle made his season debut on Wednesday, giving up one hit in a scoreless inning of work while striking out two in his team's 3-2 loss to the Tigers.

Doolittle averaged just 89 mph with his fastball in the outing after averaging 94-96 mph in past years, but he said his velocity will return in time, MLB.com reports.

"I think that will give me some confidence moving forward, not having to worry about what the radar gun says and know that I can pitch a little bit now," Doolittle said. "To have those other options to go to, I think it takes a lot of the pressure off."

Doolittle served as the team's regular closer for much of last season, posting a 2.73 ERA and 89:8 K:BB ratio in 62 2/3 innings while recording 22 saves.

Athletics right fielder Josh Reddick is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Tigers. Reddick had started all but two games since returning from the disabled list on April 12. So, with the A's facing a tough lefty in David Price, manager Bob Melvin opted to give Reddick a breather.

Reddick has cooled off slightly following his red-hot start to the season. Over his last 10 games, he's batting .244 (10 for 41) with one double, one triple and one home run.

Sam Fuld will handle right field duties and bat ninth on Tuesday.
