News
Since returning from a knee injury in late July, Josh Reddick has rediscovered the power that had been sorely lacking for him earlier in the season. That has helped to catapult him among the top 25 outfielders in Fantasy since then, but his power resurgence is only part of the story.

Reddick has a history of extreme flyball hitting, and while that gives him the potential to hit 30-plus homers like he did in 2012, it also has a little something to do with his career .242 batting average. In 30 games since his disabled list stint, Reddick has a .301 batting average to complement his six home runs and eight doubles for the Athletics, but he hasn't relied on an inflated BABIP to achieve a high average. Reddick's BABIP since his return is .275, which is just three points higher than his career mark.

The key to Reddick's lofty status among his fellow outfielders (19th in Head-to-Head, 23rd in Rotisserie) is his near-refusal to take a strike. Since his July 22 activation, Reddick has the 17th-lowest called strike rate among hitters who have seen at least 300 pitches, allowing just 11.9 percent of pitches he has seen get called for strikes (as compared to the median rate of 16.7 percent). That has aided Reddick in striking out just seven times in 103 at-bats. Among the top 25 outfielders during this period, only Ben Revere, Melky Cabrera and Norichika Aoki have even come close to Reddick's strikeout rate or total.

Over most of his career, Reddick has been a pretty typical hitter in terms of his tendency to take a strike, so who knows if he can keep this going? We've seen strange things happen before over the course of 100 or so at-bats, but if Reddick continues to blend his new aggressive approach with the decent contact rate he's shown over the years, he could be legitimate as a top 25 outfielder.

Athletics reliever Eric O'Flaherty notched his first save Wednesday against the Astros.

O'Flaherty entered with a two-run lead, and ran into some trouble. Robbie Grossman led off the inning, but was erased on a double play. It was a good thing for O'Flaherty too, as the next batter hit a solo home run. With the lead down to one, O'Flaherty got a lineout to end the game.

Athletics reliever Ryan Cook struggled yet again Thursday, and this time the offense would not bail him out in a 4-43 loss to the Angels.

One night after blowing a save by allowing two runs, Cook had trouble setting the Angels down in the bottom of the 10th. He allowed a leadoff walk followed by a single, and then lost the game on Howie Kendrick's game-winning sacrifice fly.

Cook allowed one run in two-thirds of an inning, raising his season ERA to 3.45 in 44 1/3 innings. He has allowed 17 runs overall on the season, seven of which have come in his last six outings.

Athletics third baseman Josh Donaldson had gone more than two weeks since his last home run before going deep in a 4-3 loss to the Angels Friday.

Donaldson tied the game with his sixth inning solo home run, a shot that eventually sent the game into extras. He went 2 for 3 overall in the game, while added a pair of walks in the loss.

Donaldson has found his swing again in the month of August, though he has just three home runs in 85 games. He is still hitting .294/.419/.482 with 12 RBI and nine runs scored in the month.

News
The Athletics have swapped Jeff Samardzija and Scott Kazmir for the upcoming series with the Angels, according to the Bay Area News Group.

Samardzija will now move up a day and pitch Saturday. Kazmir will be pushed back to Sunday. Both players will take on the Angels. It's unclear if Kazmir was moved in order to give him more rest following a poor start, or if the team just wanted to adjust the pitching matchups based on who the Angels were throwing.
