News
Padres pitcher Brandon Morrow allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings of work in San Diego's 4-2 win over the Rockies Saturday.

Morrow allowed a run in the second inning after putting two men on and forcing DJ LeMahieu into an RBI groundout. Then in the third, Morrow surrendered a solo home run to Charlie Blackmon, but settled in to finish things off.

"Brandon pitched very well and he was stressed a couple of times," manager Bud Black said. "But he battled out of it."

Morrow, now 2-0, moved his ERA to 2.73 in 33 innings of work. He will look to keep rolling Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

News
Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits in seven innings of work in San Diego's 7-2 loss to the Astros Wednesday.

Cashner, who struck out a season-high 10, didn't run into problems until the third inning when he allowed the first two runners to reach base safely. With runners on second and third Jose Altuve put a sacrifice fly into left field to bring home a run.

Then in the fourth, Cashner surrendered a two-run shot to Colby Rasmus over the right field wall.

"Good slider today ... he got a lot of punchouts on the slider. One walk, 10 strikeouts is pretty good for a starting pitcher," manager Bud Black said to MLB.com. "Cash was mixing pitches today; fastball, slider, change. Got a number of strikeouts with the change today."

Cashner, now 1-4, boasts a 2.61 ERA on the season. He will look to get back on track Tuesday against the Giants.

News
Padres center fielder Wil Myers drew a pair of walks Saturday for the second straight game, but he indicated that he hasn't changed his aggressive approach at the plate, MLB.com reports.

"Just the at-bats [in which] I've walked ... they haven't really thrown anything over the plate to hit," Myers said. "It's always been a 3-1 walk. I'm not really getting my pitch right now. I'd rather swing the bat than walk because I'd like to take my chances."

Myers managed only two walks in all of April before racking up four walks in his first two games of May. The Padres are just fine with their leadoff hitter's aggressiveness.

"You don't want to ever take the aggressiveness out of a young hitter, because that's what makes them … and in his mind, he can hit," manager Bud Black said Saturday. "And hitters swing. They have confidence, especially young hitters, that they can hit anything. It's going to take time for him to understand that at the big leagues pitchers can throw the ball where they want it, they can expand the zone, they can keep it out of the strike zone. He's got to learn to lay off of that. I think in time, you'll see more games like tonight, where he will not expand the zone."

Myers has hit .279/.324/.462 with four home runs, 17 RBI, three stolen bases and a league-leading 25 runs scored.
