News
Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin tried his best to keep his team from losing on Tuesday, as he belted a pinch-hit solo home run in the top of the ninth inning. But it wasn't enough as the Rangers fell to the Red Sox 4-3. It was Martin's second homer of the season.

Martin has struggled at the plate this year and has also been battling a wrist injury over the last couple of weeks.

He did not start the game with a lefty getting the start for Boston, despite the fact that he's actually hitting better against lefties (.271) than righties (.162) this season.

"We're still in evaluation process with inflammation, allowing it to calm down," Banister said on MLB Network Radio. "We'll see where we're at going forward".

Detwiler was placed on the DL on Sunday and there is no timetable for his return.

News
Jeff Banister has never declared rookie Delino DeShields a starter for the Rangers. Now he doesn't have to. Based on performance and at least for now, it's a given.

DeShields is set to make his 10th straight start Thursday and 14th in the last 16 games. He was originally placed in the lineup when Leonys Martin was lost to a hand injury, but he's not about to let go. DeShields owns a .318 batting average and .444 on-base percentage since May 4. He is even receiving opportunities to bat second.

"He's earned that," Banister told the Dallas Morning News.

His status could change upon the trumpeted return of Josh Hamilton, who could be activated as early as Monday in Cleveland. DeShields might wind up in a platoon with Martin in which he faces only left-handers.

His next start is projected for May 26 against the Indians.
