Joey Gallo will play a brand new position for the Rangers in Saturday's game.

Gallo is in the starting lineup, playing center field. He had previously played third base and left field for the Rangers since being called up from Triple-A, but he said he's "never" played center, in the minors or amateur ball, per the Star Telegram.

Leonys Martin, who had started the previous 21 games in center, gets a day off.

If Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor had scored a run or driven one in Sunday, perhaps his team would have beaten the Blue Jays.

But Odor can't be blamed. He slammed three hits, including a double, in five at-bats and even stole his fifth base of the season to stay hot.

His second three-hit game in less than a week gave Odor six hits in his last 11 at-bats. His batting average has peaked at .219.

Shortstop Elvis Andrus had a nice day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, but it wasn't enough to keep the Rangers from dropping a series to the Blue Jays.

Andrus got Texas on the board with his sixth-inning RBI single, and also added a double and stolen base, to continue a nice run in which he's hit in five of his last six games.

Andrus, who also had a three-hit game earlier in the week, has seen his average rise from .237 to .251 over the past 10 contests.

Gallardo (7-6) has a 2.72 ERA with 70 strikeouts and 28 walks in 96 innings this season.

Hamstring - 15-day DL. Expected to return June 30 at Baltimore (Updated - 6/29/15)
News
Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton (hamstring) will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday and is an option to play in center field, manager Jeff Banister said Monday.

Hamilton admitted Monday he is not 100 percent, but added he is "absolutely" ready to play.

“When I get out to my normal running stride, I still feel it a bit,” he said of the injury, according to The Dallas Morning News. “We worked on coming up with something a little shorter. That went great. I was really happy with it. I’ve got to stay on top of it and remind myself of what I need to do.

“I was hoping to play (Monday), but we decided to give me a day to recover after the travel and the workout. I’d like to get a week or 10 days in with the team and manage it and then get the All-Star break to give it some rest. I talked with Adrian Beltre and he’s managed that injury before and he said that sometimes the best thing to do is to play with it. Right now I’m comfortable to a certain extent.”

Rangers rookie Joey Gallo had a real feast-or-famine type game on Monday in the 8-1 win over the Orioles. Gallo went 1 for 5, but the one hit was a three-run triple, his first career three-bagger.

On the flip side, Gallo struck out in each of his other four plate appearances on Monday, giving him a whopping 43 punchouts over his first 25 big-league games.

Gallo has certainly shown the power potential, as evidenced by his nine extra base hits so far. But his .218 batting average and .306 on-base percentage certainly leaves a lot to be desired from the 22-year-old.

After a hot start, Rangers starter Chi Chi Gonzalez has fallen back to Earth a bit, losing his third straight decision Sunday in Texas' 3-2 loss to the Blue Jays.

Gonzalez was a hard-luck loser, giving up three runs in six innings of work, but struggled a bit with his control, walking four while only striking out three.

Gonzalez started his career with two victories in which he did not allow a run. Over his last four starts, he's given up 12 earned runs to drop to 2-3 on the season. His ERA rose to 2.59.

The homer was Fielder's 12th of the year and 48th RBI. It was also the 300th home run of his career. Fielder became the 138th MLB player to reach the milestone and the 12th active player in the club.

Fielder's father, Cecil, had 319 career home runs. The Fielders are the second father-son combination to reach 300 homers, joining Bobby and Barry Bonds.

Fielder went 2 for 4 in the game.
