With the addition of Yovani Gallardo, there is one less spot open in the Rangers' rotation. Derek Holland, Yu Darvish and Colby Lewis are also expected to be in the rotation, therefore the last spot could go to either Ross Detwiler, Nick Martinez, Nick Tepesch or Lisalverto Bonilla, per MLB.com.

"There is definitely a spot open," pitching coach Mike Maddux said. "You have to seize the opportunity. Nobody is given a job and once you earn a job, you still have to earn the right to stay here."

News
The Rangers introduced newly acquired Yovani Gallardo on Wednesday, just two days after acquiring him in a trade with the Brewers. Gallardo, who went to high school in Fort Worth, Texas, and still lives in the area, expressed his excitement about joining the Rangers roster.

"Growing up here in Texas, living in Fort Worth all my life, it's definitely a dream to have the opportunity to play for a team like the Rangers," Gallardo said, per MLB.com. "Now I have that opportunity, and I can't wait. I can't wait for it to get underway, and I'm looking forward to it.

"It was a dream [to play for the Rangers]. Having played baseball all my life, I always wanted to get to that goal that I had in mind. I didn't come to very many [Rangers] games as a kid, but I always watched on TV, that's for sure."

Gallardo joins a rotation that features Yu Darvish and Derek Holland. Gallardo has thrown at least 180 innings the last six seasons.

"It has been a focus point for us to add starting pitching, and Yovani was one of the guys we were hoping to land," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said earlier this week. "Since the beginning of the offseason, the one thing we felt we were lacking was innings in our rotation. I think we are in a lot better position."

Neck - Questionable for start of spring training (Updated - 11/5/14)
News
Rangers first baseman and designated hitter Prince Fielder told reporters Friday he's back to 100 percent and he could play in a pick up game and "I'm in there," according to ESPNDallas.com

"I'm just going to try to be healthy, that's my main goal," Fielder said. "I know I always said that before. But this was the first time I wasn't healthy, so it really means a lot to me now to try to stay healthy. That's just my goal -- to stay healthy and make sure I'm doing everything I can to be ready to play."

Fielder played in just 42 games in 2014 after having to have neck surgery. He hit .247 with three home runs and 16 RBI in 150 plate appearances.

"It was real difficult because I wasn't used to missing games," Fielder said. "So to miss a lot of the season, it was difficult at first, but I had to be an adult about it, kind of try to just get back healthy to be ready this year. I'm good, I'm 100 percent -- whatever it was before is back."
