News
Rangers starter Yovani Gallardo was strong in his outing against the Blue Jays on Thursday afternoon. The veteran right-hander kept the red-hot Jays off the scoreboard, pitching 5 1/3 scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and three walks while striking out a pair in the 4-1 victory.

Gallardo (11-9, 3.14 ERA) ran up his pitch count, as he left the game after throwing 101 pitches (58 strikes) without getting through the sixth inning. But he was able to dance out of danger, despite having just one clean inning on the day.

Gallardo has now tossed three scoreless outings over his last five starts. But he made it past the sixth inning in just one of those games.

Overall in August, Gallardo was excellent, going 4-0 with a 1.98 ERA in five starts.

Rangers closer Shawn Tolleson didn't become the Rangers closer until late May. But he has certainly made up for lost time.

Tolleson snagged his 28th save in just over three months Saturday against Baltimore. He did have to work out of a bit of a jam, but stranded two baserunners in the ninth.

The right-hander has surrendered a run in only two August appearances. He has 10 saves in the month.

"It feels OK to throw and hit on the knee," he said. "I just haven't gotten to the important part where I can run or jog. That's the next step."

Derek Holland was dominant on the hill for the Rangers on Sunday, tossing a complete-game shutout to help Texas earn a key victory over the Orioles.

Holland threw 116 pitches, allowing just four hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out 11. It's by far the most impressive start for Holland since returning from spinal fusion surgery 11 days ago.

Holland threw first-pitch strikes to 23 of the 31 batters he faced to improve to 2-1 on the season.

News
Rangers starter Martin Perez blew a lead, got it back and received a boost from the bullpen to earn a win over Baltimore on Saturday night.

Perez gave up three runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings to snag his second win of the season. He walked none and whiffed four.

A three-run, four-hit fifth inning that began with a Steve Pearce blast turned a 3-0 lead into a tie. He retired the next five batters, but successive singles in the sixth knocked him out of the game.

Perez has given up just 11 runs over his last 32 2/3 innings and has lowered his ERA to a still-poor 5.15.
