News
Nationals outfielder Nate McLouth said he will be 100 percent this spring coming off August shoulder surgery, per The Washington Post. He had surgery to repair a torn labrum.

"It’s been a long process, I think it’s been like three and a half months since I’ve had the surgery, something like that, and like I said it’s definitely been monotonous, but I can definitely feel it getting stronger," McLouth said. "I saw a doctor [Friday] here, and he said it’s looking pretty good."

News
Nationals starting pitcher Doug Fister, who is entering his final year of arbitration, said he is not spoken to the team about a contract extension, per The Washington Post. Fister said he is also not getting caught up in trade rumors.

"I don’t wanna know stories or anything. I’m a pitcher for the Washington Nationals right now, and that’s the stance I always take," Fister said. "I’m a part of this group. I’m a part of this team, and that’s what I want to be. Until something else happens, until I’m told otherwise, that’s what I want to be and that’s where I am.

"There were always rumors, but I want to be taken by surprise because I want to expect that I’m going to be back here next year. That’s how I want to approach things, that’s how I want to take it. You take this jersey away from me, I don’t want to take it off. That’s how much I love each team that I play for. I want to be loyal to that team. I want to be a National."

News
The Nationals and outfielder Bryce Harper avoided a grievance hearing regarding his 2015 salary by agreeing to a two-year deal, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

The two sides were scheduled to have a grievance hearing Tuesday before coming to terms on a two-year, $7.5 million contract, sources told Heyman. Harper will make $2.5 million in 2015 and $5 million in 2016.

Harper was set to make $1.5 million in 2015 due to the contract he signed as a first-round pick in 2010. Had he been eligible for arbitration, he would have likely made about $2.5 million, according to The Washington Post. Harper and his agent, Scott Boras, believed Harper had the right to opt out of his deal and enter arbitration.

News
Nationals starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann sounds optimistic about negotiations regarding a long-term contract, but added there is still a lot of discussion left after the two sides met at the Winter Meetings last week.

"I’m hopeful, but we got a lot of talking to do," Zimmermann said, per The Washington Post. "Obviously we’ve only had one meeting so far and it went well. We’ll see where it goes."

Although, it doesn't appear Zimmermann is willing to cave in negotiations just because Washington is the only team he has known since being drafted in the second round in 2007.

"If it’s a fair value, like I have said all along, I would gladly sign," Zimmermann said. "But at the end of the day, it’s gotta be something that’s fair and if it’s not, then I’ll be moving on.

"I’m a National for one year, for this upcoming season, and we’ll see if it’s a fair, if we can come up with something that’s fair for both sides, then we’ll sign the deal. At the end of the day, it’s gotta be fair."
