Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche was back in the lineup Wednesday against the Angels, after missing the team's previous game with tightness in his quad. He showed no lingering effects from the injury, extending his hitting streak to seven games by going 3 for 5 with a walkoff RBI single in the 5-4 win.

LaRoche is off to a strong star to the season, hitting .315/.419/.479 in 73 at-bats, with three RBI and 12 home runs.

News
Nationals infielder Danny Espinosa collected a season-high three hits Sunday against the Cardinals, raising his season average to .313. It also came a day after he hit his first home run.

Espinosa is off to a promising start a season after being demoted to the minors.

"I’m happy for him, because I’ve been that guy," manager Matt Williams said, per The Washington Post. "So I know the dedication that it takes to work back and be the player he wants to be. And so far, he’s been really good. His approach is good, his intensity is good, his attitude’s fantastic, and he loves to play. So I’m happy for him."

Espinosa has moved his way into the starting lineup due to Ryan Zimmerman's thumb injury forcing Williams to play second baseman Anthony Rendon at third base.

"I’m just trying to help the team and do my part," Espinosa said. "We’re missing a couple key guys in our lineup. I’m just stepping in and trying to do my part so we can be successful this season and hopefully make a playoff run. When you play every day, obviously your timing is a lot better. When you’re facing 96 every single guy out of their ‘pen, if you’re getting one at-bat, it looks like 106. You can’t really slow it down. But more at-bats does help your timing."

News
Nationals starting pitcher Taylor Jordan struggled yet again in a 7-2 loss to the Angels Tuesday, his third loss in a row.

Jordan struggled from the very start of the outing, though it wasn't entirely his fault. Jordan allowed four runs on four hits in the top of the first inning, though two of those runs were unearned thanks to a fielding error by his third baseman.

Still, Jordan wasn't particularly good even when accounting for the defense's issues. He was charged with six runs -- four earned -- in five innings of work, on eight hits. He did not walk any batters, while striking out five, but gave up two home runs before being pulled from the game.

Jordan has dropped three decisions in a row since opening the season with six-plus one-run innings. He now has a 6.23 ERA heading into his next start, Sunday against the Padres.

He's on track to take on the Padres at home Saturday.

"After the fifth inning, it started getting a little colder," Gonzalez said. [The shoulder] felt a little tight." "Matt started seeing it in the sixth inning. I feel fine now. I did all my exercises. I feel great. Next question."
