News
As I mentioned in my latest Rankings Review, where I touch on several of the changes I made to my rest-of-season rankings, Adam LaRoche's transformation has gone largely unnoticed this season.

Yeah, everyone can see he's batting .306 (19 for 62) with six home runs and a 1.096 OPS in August, and some might remember he's been a strong finisher in the past. But I'm talking about something that's been going on all season.

I'm talking about a career-high walk rate and a career-low strikeout rate. OK, so he technically had a better strikeout rate as a 25-year-old platoon player in 2005, but you get the idea: dramatically improved discipline.

For as many ways as players regress in their mid-30s, they do typically improve in that one area. Even though his batting average is now a perfectly sustainable .272 thanks to a horrendous July, LaRoche still has a .376 on-base percentage. He's averaged about as many Head-to-Head points per game this year (3.13) as Freddie Freeman (3.17).

Given his history as a strong finisher, I'd plan to stick with him the rest of the way.

Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond went 3 for 4 with four RBI and a stolen base in his team's 8-1 win over the Diamondbacks Tuesday.

Desmond drove home two runs with a single in the third inning and repeated the feat with another single in the sixth. It's the first time he's driven in four runs in a game since June 9. Desmond has hit .251/.307/.425 with 20 home runs, 77 RBI and 15 stolen bases. He needs five more steals to record his third straight 20-20 season.

McLouth is still under contract with the Nationals for $5 million in 2015, the final season of a two-year deal.

News
Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper put together a three-hit game Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, his second since returning from the disabled list, the Washington Post reports.

Harper sparked the team's game-winning rally in the ninth inning with his third single of the game, and manager Matt Williams said how he got the hit was the most encouraging part of the performance.

"He hit the ball back through the middle [Wednesday], which is really important for him," Williams said.

Harper has struggled to find his power swing this season thanks to a thumb injury, but he is hitting .282 with a .375 on-base percentage since the All-Star break. Impressed by his approach Wednesday, Williams believes the power will follow.

"But if he stays through the middle like that, he's going to get a lot of hits, and I feel if he trusts himself to do that, the home runs will come," Williams said. "They will come. They'll come on hanging breaking balls and change-ups up in the zone, if he can stay middle of the diamond. And he's working hard on that. So I'm proud of his approach."

News
Nationals pitcher Jordan Zimmermann couldn’t pick up a win Monday against the Diamondbacks.

Zimmermann allowed three runs on four hits over seven innings. He struck out two and walked three. Zimmermann found himself in a pitcher’s duel for much of the game. After going down by a run in the fifth, Zimmermann held steady for two more innings. The Nationals managed to scratch two runs across the board in the seventh, putting Zimmermann in line for the win. He couldn’t hold on. Zimmermann came out to start the eighth, but gave up a walk and two-run homer to the first two batters he faced. He was pulled following the home run.

The Nationals managed to battle back, giving Zimmermann a no-decision. He’ll take on the Giants in his next start.

News
Here's what we know: Jayson Werth has a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder but will attempt to play through it after receiving a cortisone shot Wednesday.

Here's what The Washington Post recently reported: The injury has compelled him to shorten his swing in a manner not unlike that of 2012, when he returned from a broken wrist.

The problem with that? He hit only five home runs in 300 at-bats in 2012.

That's partially what made last year's performance so shocking. He appeared to have regressed the year before. Turns out he just made a change to his swing -- the same one he says he's made now.

Granted, he's 2 for 5 with a double since returning, so no need to sound the alarm, but if you own Werth in Fantasy, you're not out of the woods yet.
