Delaying surgery could cause Aldridge to miss training camp
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(3:10 pm ET) After choosing to delay surgery on a torn ligament in his thumb, Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge could miss the start of training camp next season, reports The Oregonian.

Aldridge cannot cause further damage to the thumb by playing, but Dr. Steven Shin, a hand/wrist surgeon at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles said delaying the surgery could cause issues next season.

"The reason why we suggest surgery rather than waiting is the quality of ligament can deteriorate with time," Shin said.

Shin added that if the quality of the ligament continues to decrease it could cause his recovery time to double.

"If he waits until the end of the season, the quality of ligament won't be as good as now," Shin said.
