Howard is dealing with a right ankle sprain, which caused him to miss Sunday's contest.

"It wasn't as bad as when it happened, but I had to sit out of practice, so we'll see how it feels tomorrow," Howard said. "Hopefully I can play, but if not, we still have a great chance to win the game."

Heat's Hassan Whiteside has mentor in Alonzo Mourning
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(4:49 pm ET) As Heat center Hassan Whiteside tries to become one of the top centers in the NBA, he'll have a Hall of Fame center to help him during his journey.

Former Heat center Alonzo Mourning has been a steady influence on Whiteside since he joined the Heat in November, reports the Sun Sentinel.

Mourning has taken on a mentor role with Whiteside to ensure Whiteside stays humble as he ascends to the ranks of top NBA centers.

"Alonzo Mourning is here to keep him even keel," guard Dwyane Wade said. "That's his job. Our job as teammates is to keep him confident, keep him focused."

Along with Mourning, Whiteside also has assistant coach Juwan Howard to lean on. Howard spent 19 seasons in the NBA and has helped develop Whiteside's low-post game.

"He's a great guy," Whiteside said. "He played 19 years in the league. It's not too many who can say that. He just talks to me every day."
