Butler is dealing with a thumb injury, and did not play during Wednesday's opener. It's unclear when he'll return, though the fact that he was able to participate in 4-on-4 could bode well for his return. 


Pistons F Cartier Martin sits out second straight game

(6:56 pm ET) Pistons forward Cartier Martin was ruled out for the second consecutive game on Thursday against Minnesota because of plantar fasciitis in his right foot, per the team's official website. He has yet to play a game this season for Detroit.

Heat guard Shabazz Napier receives high praise

(6:55 pm ET) Heat guard Shabazz Napier received high praise from coach Erik Spoelstra, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Napier scored just two points during the contest, but Spoelsta liked the way he fit into the offense. "I thought Shabazz really settled into the game and got us organized in three or four critical possessions in the third quarter and did a nice job in the beginning of the fourth," he said. Napier played 15 minutes opening night, but could be looking at more playing time if he continues to impress his coach. 


Nuggets' Gallinari: It'll take a while to get back to normal minutes

(6:50 pm ET) Nuggets small forward Danilo Gallinari told the Denver Post following Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Pistons that "it's going to take me a while to get back to normal minutes."

Gallinari was limited to 18 minutes in his since suffering an ACL injury in April 2013. He showed some rust, finishing with only seven points on 1 of 8 shooting from teh field and 4 for 4 from the charity stripe in a 89-79 victory. He'll likely be limited to 18-20 minutes per contest until he's back in game shape.


Nets center Brook Lopez won't be restricted when he returns

(6:49 pm ET) Nets center Brook Lopez won't be restricted once he returns from a foot injury, according to Newsday.

Lopez missed the team's opener due to the issue. Once he's able to come back, Lopez will play his normal minutes. Last season, he averaged 20.7 points per game. 


Wizards set to get DeJuan Blair, Nene back Thursday

(6:43 pm ET) Wizards forward DeJuan Blair and center Nene are set to return Thursday against the Magic.

Both players were suspended for opening night after leaving the bench during a preseason altercation. Nene averaged 14.2 points per game last season. Blair averaged 6.4 points last year.


Magic C Channing Frye set to make debut, Kyle O'Quinn inactive

Celtics SF Wallace out Thursday, eyeing Saturday return

Bullock averaged 2.7 points per game a year ago, but shot just 35.5 percent from the field.


Report: Rockets set to pick up option on PF Terrence Jones

(5:45 pm ET) Emerging Rockets power forward Terrence Jones has had his fourth-year contract option picked up, a source has told the Houston Chronicle.

Jones is averaging 12.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 28 minutes in two games this season.
