Clippers' Barnes drops 18 points before aggravating abdominal injury
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:05 am ET) Clippers forward Matt Barnes was great from the field Monday against the Nuggets, going 7 of 11 and finishing with 18 points. Unfortunately, it was not all good news for Barnes, who aggravated a strained abdominal muscle in the fourth quarter, according to the Associated Press.

Barnes scored in double figures Monday for the first time in four games. Although, he is averaging a season-best 12.5 points per game in 12 January appearances.

Hornets' Brian Roberts ready to fill in for injured Kemba Walker
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9:59 am ET) With Hornets guard Kemba Walker out indefinitely due to knee surgery, Brian Roberts is ready to step up in his absence. It's a role that is not unfamiliar to Roberts, who started 42 games last season for the Pelicans after Jrue Holiday suffered a tibia fracture.

“Here’s another opportunity for me to step up and help this team win games,” Roberts said Monday, per the Charlotte Observer. “It’s a challenge and everybody has to step up and take a little bit more ownership. Filling that void will be a group effort.”

Hornets coach Steve Clifford has praised Roberts for his play in limited action this season. He averages 6.8 points and 2.1 assists and 17.4 minutes. He also shoots 37 percent from 3-point range.

“Organize and score,” Clifford said of Roberts' strengths. “We play with a purpose when he’s in there. And with the pick-and-roll and the catch-and-shoot, he puts pressure on the defense.”

Rookie Joe Ingles settling in with Jazz, encouraged to shoot more
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9:52 am ET) Jazz forward Joe Ingles poured in a career-best 16 points during Saturday's 108-73 win against the Nets. All four of his baskets were from 3-point range.

Saturday's performance has been something Jazz coaches and players have been waiting for from the 6-8 rookie, who said he is often encouraged to shoot more often, per the Deseret News

“When every guy on the team and the coaching staff is telling you, ‘shoot it, shoot it,’ obviously I’ve always known I could shoot it, but it was more of a trying to get the guys involved and being that middle man,” Ingles said. “I don’t mind doing it, and I’m not out there to get my own stats or anything like that.”

While Ingles is not a big-time offensive contributor yet, he has begun to earn more playing time. He has already logged a season-best 347 minutes in 13 January games. He is also averaging a season-best 6.0 points per game in January and is proving to have good court vision by averaging 4.0 assists per game this month.

“I don’t want him to get carried away,” Snyder said “He still needs to take good shots. I thought he was confident, and the shots he took were good shots.”

Jazz's Snyder impressed by Elijah Millsap's 'defensive mindset'
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9:41 am ET) Jazz shooting guard Elijah Millsap has his strong defensive play to thank for landing a multiyear deal after originally signing a pair of 10-day contracts.

“He’s got a defensive mindset, for one thing,” Jazz coach Quin Snyder said of Millsap, per the Deseret News. “We’re thin at the wing obviously with Alec’s injury and Rodney (Hood) being out, so he had an opportunity to play right away, which is good. It gave us a really good look at what he can do.”

Snyder was particularly impressed with how well Millsap played in matchups against Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant and James Harden during a road trip in January.

“That’s a heck of a 10-day right there, right?” Snyder said. “The way he took those challenges --  and he’s unselfish.”

Clippers' Jamal Crawford goes for 23 points on Monday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(1:13 am ET) Clippers guard Jamal Crawford picked up 23 points on Monday against the Nuggets.

Crawford shot 6-14 from the field, including 3-7 from beyond the arc. He sunk eight of his nine free throws, finishing with a team-high 23 points. Crawford found ways to contribute elsewhere, picking up four rebounds and three assists.

Clippers' Blake Griffin just misses out on triple-double
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(1:04 am ET) Clippers forward Blake Griffin just missed out on a triple-double on Monday against the Nuggets.

Griffin shot 6-17 from the field. He sunk two of his free throws, finishing with 14 points. Griffin made sure to involve his teammates, dishing out 10 assists. He was also a force on the boards, pulling down nine rebounds. Had he pulled down one more rebound, it would have been Griffin's first triple-double of the season.

Nuggets' Ty Lawson doubles up Clippers in loss Monday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(1:03 am ET) Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson scored 19 points on 7 of 12 shooting and dished out 11 assists in Denver's 102-98 loss to the Clippers Monday.

It was Lawson's second straight double-double and 21st of the season. Despite three turnovers, Lawson kept a solid line, grabbing three rebounds.

Nuggets' Wilson Chandler doubles up Clippers in losing effort Monday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(1:00 am ET) Nuggets forward Wilson Chandler scored 18 points on 7 of 18 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds in Denver's 102-98 loss to the Clippers Monday. Chandler started strong, scoring the Nuggets first 10 points on 4 of 4 shooting.

It was Chandler's sixth double-double of the season, the most he has had in any season in his career. Chandler added two assists and a steal to his totals Monday.

Thunder center Steven Adams trying to figure out migraine problems
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(12:39 am ET) Thunder center Steven Adams doesn't know how he gets migraines, but he's trying to figure it out. Adams missed Sunday's game against the Cavaliers when 30 minutes before tipoff, he caught a sharp pain in his head.

"I started losing peripheral vision in my left eye," Adams said. "I couldn’t see anything like right here (places hand close to face). And from then on it was going downhill. Got a mess of pain, got real drowsy, couldn’t do nothing."

Adams said he's been dealing with these types of pain since he was 14-years-old.

"It’s really random," Adams said. "Don’t even know. I’ve been seeing someone, trying to figure out what my trigger points are."

Report: Warriors' Curry, Thompson in three-point contest
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12:29 am ET) Warriors guards Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are expected to participate in the three-point contest, according to Yahoo Sports.

The duo will be joined by Hawks' Kyle Korver, Trail Blazer's Wesley Matthews and Clippers' J.J. Redick

Curry has the experience, as the 26-year-old has already participated in two three-point contests.

Korver, however, may be the favorite. He leads the NBA, shooting 53 percent from beyond the arc.

Spurs guard Marco Belinelli won the event in 2014.
