by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11:26 am ET) The Pacers announced forward C.J. Miles will not play Tuesday against the Raptors due to a left groin strain. It will be the second straight game he misses.

Miles, who has been averaging 12.4 points per game in 2014-15, is averaging 14.1 points in January after averaging 14.9 points in December.

The Pacers are considered 3 1/2-point underdogs for Tuesday's game.

Lakers' Scott calls Nick Young's benching a 'one-game thing'
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:38 am ET) If guard Nick Young was calling the shots for the Lakers, his solution would be simple to Kobe Bryant likely missing the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury.

“Pretty much just give me the ball and get out of the way,” Young said, per the Los Angeles Daily News.

It could make sense since Young is averaging 14.4 points per game, which trails only Bryant's team-leading 22.3 points per game. However, Young isn't calling the shots. That's coach Byron Scott's job, and Young needs to worry about getting on Scott's good side after be played only nine minutes in Sunday's loss against Houston because Scott was frustrated with Young's body language.

“The message I was sending (Sunday) night was, ‘You basically didn’t look like you wanted to play,’” Scott said. “‘You weren’t defending. You were just standing around.’ He was throwing the ball all over the place. So I chose not to play him, because if you look disinterested, with body language and things like that, to me you don’t want to play.”

Young chose not to speak to reporters after Sunday's game and didn't get too much into the benching Monday by saying, "He’s the coach and he’s seeing what he’s seeing. It’s not my place to get into that.”

Scott called the benching a “one-game thing” and reported Young being “energetic” during Monday’s practice. Young seems eager to put Sunday's benching behind him.

“There’s never a day that goes by that I don’t want to be out on the court,” Young said. “I love being here and love playing basketball. I get a joy out of playing and seeing the fans and hearing them chant ‘Swaggy P.’”

Clippers' Barnes drops 18 points before aggravating abdominal injury
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:05 am ET) Clippers forward Matt Barnes was great from the field Monday against the Nuggets, going 7 of 11 and finishing with 18 points. Unfortunately, it was not all good news for Barnes, who aggravated a strained abdominal muscle in the fourth quarter, according to the Associated Press.

Barnes scored in double figures Monday for the first time in four games. Although, he is averaging a season-best 12.5 points per game in 12 January appearances.

Hornets' Brian Roberts ready to fill in for injured Kemba Walker
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9:59 am ET) With Hornets guard Kemba Walker out indefinitely due to knee surgery, Brian Roberts is ready to step up in his absence. It's a role that is not unfamiliar to Roberts, who started 42 games last season for the Pelicans after Jrue Holiday suffered a tibia fracture.

“Here’s another opportunity for me to step up and help this team win games,” Roberts said Monday, per the Charlotte Observer. “It’s a challenge and everybody has to step up and take a little bit more ownership. Filling that void will be a group effort.”

Hornets coach Steve Clifford has praised Roberts for his play in limited action this season. He averages 6.8 points and 2.1 assists and 17.4 minutes. He also shoots 37 percent from 3-point range.

“Organize and score,” Clifford said of Roberts' strengths. “We play with a purpose when he’s in there. And with the pick-and-roll and the catch-and-shoot, he puts pressure on the defense.”
