Timberwolves part ways with Roy: Brandon Roy's career might be over for real this time, after the Timberwolves released the veteran guard Friday. Roy was limited to just five games in his comeback attempt, as continued knee issues dogged him all season long. Roy retired before the 2011-12 season due to his knee injuries, and it is not clear whether he will try to catch on with another team this offseason. The 28-year-old Roy averaged 5.8 points and 4.6 assists in his five games with the Wolves. (Updated 5/11/13) |

Roy has to be commended just for the hard work he put in to get on the floor as briefly as he did, given that numerous doctors reportedly told him he would not play again. It will be interesting to see if he tried to come back again this season, and if any teams would be interested in taking on such an injury risk. Either way, it is safe to say he is unlikely to have much Fantasy value on Draft Day next season. (Updated 5/11/13). |
| After announcing his retirement due to chronic knee issues just prior to the start of the last season, Brandon Roy has decided to return to the NBA. The 27-year-old signed a two-year deal with the Timberwolves that will reportedly pay Roy $10.4 million while filling a void at shooting guard. However, the question with Roy now becomes how much he has left in the tank. The former University of Washington standout was an All-Star at his peak as he averaged 22.6 points, 5.1 assists and 4.7 rebounds back in the 2008-09 campaign. However he averaged a career low 12.2 points per game in 2010-11, while missing almost half the season because of the knee issues. It seems highly unlikely Minnesota signed him with the expectations of being a star, so we would expect Roy to see around 20-25 minutes off in a reserve. He also may end up coming off the bench for coach Rick Aldeman as he will likely try and get Roy into the game at the most crucial moments without over extended his playing time. While he is obviously a huge question mark entering the season, some Fantasy owners are going to unlikely be able to avoid the urge of scooping him up in the later rounds. If that is the case make sure to temper expectations a bit. There is no doubt Roy still has some huge upside to his game, although his balky knees may never allow him tom get there.
