Barea tallies season high : Minnesota guard Jose Juan Barea went off for a season-high 17 points on Wednesday night against Memphis. He shot 4 for 9 from the field -- hitting 3 of his 6 attempts from long range -- and converted 6 of his 8 foul shots. With Luke Ridnour struggling with his shot, the Timberwolves turned to Barea. He chipped in two steals, six assists and three rebounds. It wouldn't be enough though as Minnesota lost to Memphis, 85-80. (Updated 02/09/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Barea gives the T'wolves a nice boost off the bench, but his production can be sporadic. He's averaging 9.4 points and 4.0 assists per game over his last five outings. He had been dealing with an ankle issue and has just these five games back under his belt. Fantasy owners should continue to view Barea as a low-end guard option in deeper category-based formats moving forward. (Updated 02/09/2012).

Luke Ridnour made the tiebreaking 3-pointer with 1:23 left, Nikola Pekovic scored a career-high 27 points, and the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the New Jersey Nets 108-105 on Friday night.
01/25/2012 10:02 Waiver Wire: Biyombo climbing the ranks
As Week 6 of the Fantasy basketball season approaches, the holes on your team start to become even more glaring. Ed Gauna takes a stroll through the waiver wire and points out the gems you might be missing.
Is J.J. Barea on the verge of a breakout? Probably not while Jason Kidd and Jason Terry are both on the Mavericks' roster and healthy. However, Barea has carved out enough of a niche to be considered a worthwhile addition in deeper Fantasy leagues despite playing time that will not surpass 20 minutes per game on most nights. A solid outside shooter and an adequate passer, Barea is trusted by the Mavs to run the offense during those instances when the first unit needs a breather. The result last season was a career-best 9.5 points and 3.9 assists with nearly a 3-pointer per game. Consider him adequate insurance for Kidd in deeper formats, but we suspect Barea will be mostly waiver wire fodder again this season. (Updated 8/28/11)
