Fantasy Analysis
Durant is currently the NBA's No. 2 scorer and his performance on Friday was his second-best scoring output of the season. It was also the most a player has scored on the Pacers this year as the 23-year-old continues to make a late charge toward putting himself in the running for MVP. Russell Westbrook scored 28 points, Kevin Durant added 25 points and 10 rebounds, and the Oklahoma City Thunder surged ahead in the second half to beat Los Angeles 106-90 in Game 5 on Monday night and eliminate the Lakers from the playoffs.
One of the NBA’s most exciting young players, the 23-year-old Durant did not live up to lofty expectations last year. That said, Fantasy owners who took him among the first three picks still got a top Fantasy option with his 27.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.1 steals, one block and almost two 3-pointers per game. While most of those numbers came in below what he put up in 2009-10 as a 21-year-old, Durant also had to learn to share with Russell Westbrook, who blossomed last season. Durant should become a little more take-charge this year as he and Westbrook figure out how to co-exist and get the best out of their distinctive abilities. There is no doubt that Durant will once again be among the game’s and Fantasy’s best. Owners should still have lofty expectations and consider taking him with one of the first few selections on Draft Day. (Updated 8/28/11)
