Thunder GM says Kevin Durant could return to court by summer

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(5/20/15) Thunder forward Kevin Durant is still recovering from foot surgery but general manager Sam Presti is hopeful that his star will be able to get back on the court in the next couple of months, per the Oklahoman

While Durant is progressing, he's still not at a weight-bearing stage on the his foot, which has troubled him for the past couple of seasons.

"We’re definitely moving in the right direction and excited about him being back on the floor toward the end of the summer," Presti said on a conference call.

Klay Thompson's dad: Warriors will 'go hard' for Kevin Durant

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(5/1/15) Former NBA player Mychal Thompson, the father of current Warriors' guard Klay Thompson, claimed to have inside information on how the team will approach the 2016 free agent market.

Appearing on his Bay Area radio show, Thompson said he "heard it on good authority, ... that they're gonna go hard after Kevin Durant."

Durant's contract with the Thunder expires in 2016 and he'll be a free agent.

"The cap is gonna go up," Thompson said. "David Lee is gonna be off the books. So they are gonna have some salary cap room."

Thunder F Kevin Durant on Billy Donovan hire: I'm excited

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(4/30/15) Thunder forward Kevin Durant expressed approval of the team's decision to hire Billy Donovan as their next coach, reports ESPN.com.

"I'm very excited to learn from him and get better from him and do my best to do whatever he tells me to do," Durant said.

In order to gauge how Donovan is as a coach, Durant said he reached out to former University of Florida players Mike Miller and Chandler Parsons.

Despite having never coached in the NBA, Durant was confident Donovan would be a successful coach with the Thunder, according to The Oklahoman.

"If you know how to coach a team, that's all that matters," he said.

Thunder's Durant supports decision to fire Brooks '100 percent'

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/22/15) Thunder forward Kevin Durant said in a statement Wednesday that he supports the team's decision to fire coach Scott Brooks "100 percent," The Oklahoman reports.

"Today was tough for me," Durant said. "While I support our team's decision 100 percent and look forward to the upcoming season and the future in OKC, Scotty was my coach and a friend for the past seven seasons. We accomplished a lot together, and those times will never be taken away from us. I grew as both a man and a ball player under his guidance and for that I will be forever grateful. I wish nothing but the best for him and his family, who have also been such a big part of this city and organization. I know he will be very successful in wherever his next steps in life are."

The Thunder finished the season 45-37 but missed the playoffs for the first time in six seasons and the first time with Brooks as coach of the team for a full season. Durant was limited to 27 games while dealing with ongoing foot issues.

Thunder's Durant, Westbrook offer support for Scott Brooks

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(4/16/15) With the Thunder reportedly contemplating whether to bring back coach Scott Brooks next season, forward Kevin Durant said Brooks does not deserve blame for the team missing the playoffs for the first since 2008-09, reports The Oklahoman.

"He rallied us, made sure we were all emotionally stable," Durant said.

Guard Russell Westbrook agreed with Durant that Brooks did the best job possible.

"As a coach and as a friend, I think he does a great job," Westbrook said.

Durant added that he was disappointed he wasn't able to finish the season to help the team due to his foot injury.

"I'm definitely pissed," he said. "I can't wait for the first game [next season]."
