Durant sits out finale: ESPN reports that Thunder forward Kevin Durant will not play in Wednesday's regular-season finale, meaning Carmelo Anthony will secure his first career NBA scoring title. Durant, who is averaging 28.1 points per game this season, posted a note on his Instagram account announcing he will sit against the Bucks. The note, which was posted to Durant's account on Wednesday morning, said: "SITTING OUT TONIGHT'S GAME, if you disappointed I didn't try to go for the scoring title, oh well!!" Durant entered Wednesday trailing only Anthony, who is averaging 28.7 points, for the league scoring lead. However, Durant has played in 14 more games this season than the Knicks forward, who will sit Wednesday against the Hawks. Even if Anthony appeared in Wednesday's game but did not score a single point, he still would be averaging 28.2 points per game, barely edging a sidelined Durant. Durant would have needed to score a whopping 70 points to pass a sidelined Anthony and capture his fourth consecutive scoring title. (Updated 4/17/13) |

| Fantasy Analysis |
Durant has recently dealt with a calf issue, but he's been able to play through it. He should be fine for the start of the playoffs, and obviously he's an elite Fantasy option in all formats when healthy. Look for him to challenge for the scoring title again next season, but first he is ready to lead the Thunder back on another long playoff run. (Updated 4/17/13). |
| Kevin Durant turned in the best statistical season of his career during the 2011-12 campaign as he won his third straight scoring title, dropping in a healthy 28.0 points per game. He also averaged career highs in almost every major offensive category, including field-goal percentage (49.6), rebounds (8.0), assists (3.5) and steals (1.3) while starting all 66 games during the NBA's lockout-condensed schedule. While Durant once again turned in another outstanding season, he was unable to unseat James as the top Fantasy scoring option, in terms of Fantasy points, as he finished second in all Head-to-Head formats for the second straight season. Durant also finished second to James for the league MVP honors and had his Thunder lose to LeBron's Heat in five games during the NBA Finals. That should provide Durant with plenty of motivation heading into next year, although it's not like he needs it. The former University of Texas standout has shown improvement in each of his five seasons in the league and at only 23, most feel he hasn't even come close to reaching his ceiling yet. Durant will catch LeBron eventually, as he has narrowed the gap between the two in each of the last two years. Still, he has certainly widened the gap between himself and the rest of the pack and looks to have locked himself in as an elite Fantasy forward for years to come. While James will likely be the first overall selection in most leagues on Draft Day this fall, Durant should be taken no later than No. 2. (Updated 8/22/12) |
