Grizzlies center Marc Gasol would rather not rest
|by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com|
|(3/16/15) After sitting out of Thursday's loss to the Wizards to rest, Grizzlies center Marc Gasol said he prefers to play instead of resting, reports The Commercial Appeal.
"No, I don't like rest," Gasol said. "It's not my call. It's never been my call. It will never be my call. I don't like resting. I know I have a small window. Basketball, itself, gives you a small window because you have a certain amount of games. I take pride in playing every game. To me, it's important to play every game. But I don't run the show. There are other people that make those decisions and I'll respect it. I respect Dave and I'll have to deal with it."
While Gasol prefers not to rest, coach Dave Joerger said he will consider resting Gasol and other players in the future.
"I've been bringing their minutes back anyways after the break a little bit," Joerger said. "Whether we have a back-to-back or take a day off, when we do or don't have to, you're hoping to get a response of some energy and some fight. I don't know if I will [rest players again] or not, but it's certainly something that I've certainly given thought to and leaning towards."
|Fantasy owners weren't able to get the most out of Grizzlies center Marc Gasol last season because of his knee troubles. Gasol missed 23 games because of an MCL sprain, which resulted in a career-low 10 double-doubles. He averaged 16.0 points, 7.1 boards and 4.3 assists while shooting 45.8 percent from the field over his first 13 games before the injury. After returning from a knee injury, Gasol averaged 14.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 47.7 percent from the field over 46 contests. Gasol has played 80-plus games three times over his six-year career and is bound to have a bounce-back season. He should be targeted in the mid-early rounds on Draft Day.
