Oden scheduled for two surgeries: Portland C Greg Oden is scheduled to have surgery on his right knee on Friday, but will also undergo surgery to his left knee on Feb. 13, reports the Oregonian on Sunday. Oden's surgeries will now add up to five since joining the team back in 2007. Both surgeries will be similar to each other in that doctors will be clearing up debris from the knee. Knee - Likely out for the season (Updated - 2/3/12)
Fantasy Analysis
It now appears to be an extreme long shot that Oden will return at some point during this season. The 23-year-old has managed just 82 games since being the first overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft as injuries have derailed his career. Fantasy owners should probably leave him unowned for now. This is starting to sound repetitive. Portland C Greg Oden has gone from No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft to a reclamation project due to a series of knee operations. He had his entire 2010-11 season wiped out due to microfracture surgery and could be sidelined again for the 2011-12 campaign, crippling the chances of Oden emerging as the superstar he was once expected to be in years past. He averaged 11.1 points and 8.4 rebounds in just 21 games in 2009-10, playing 23.9 minutes per game. As one of the biggest question marks heading into the season, Oden should not be considered a worthwhile selection in 2011-12 Fantasy drafts as the injury risk is too great. (Updated 12/16/11)
