Knicks could start Jason Smith, bring Amar'e Stoudemire off bench

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11/5/14) Knicks coach Derek Fisher is considering starting Jason Smith at power forward and bringing Amar'e Stoudemire off the bench with the second unit, Newsday reports.

Stoudemire has drawn two starts in the team's four games, including in Tuesday's loss, when he scored just six points on 3 of 7 shooting in 28 minutes while hauling in 12 rebounds. He's averaged 10.8 points and 8.5 rebounds in 25 minutes per game. Smith has averaged 8.8 points and 2.0 rebounds in 18.8 minutes per game.

Report: PF Jason Smith earns starting job for Knicks

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/24/14) Jason Smith will serve as the starting power forward for the Knicks to open the season, according to the New York Post. He has emerged with the job ahead of Quincy Acy and Amar'e Stoudemire, who will be used as a super sub.

The former Pelican who is coming off knee surgery has performed well in the preseason. He is set to start the Friday exhibition finale against Toronto, then will likely maintain the spot when the team opens the regular season with back-to-back games against Eastern Conference studs Chicago and Cleveland.

The Knicks signed Smith for the mid-level exception of $3.2 million in the offseason.

Knicks' Jason Smith could start at power forward

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10/18/14) Knicks power forward Jason Smith could open the season in the starting lineup, ESPNNewYork.com reports.

"Jason Smith has played some good minutes for us the last couple games since he’s been back and there’s no reason why he couldn’t maybe crack into that [starting lineup]," coach Derek Fisher said Friday.

Smith is competing with Quincy Acy, Andrea Bargnani and Amar'e Stoudemire for minutes at the position.

Jason Smith expected to be ready for camp

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/17/14) Knicks center Jason Smith is expected to be healthy for the start of training camp, after season-ending knee surgery in 2013-14.

Smith signed a one-year deal worth $3.3 million with the Knicks this offseason, despite playing just 31 games a year ago. He was productive when he played, averaging 9.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Pelicans, and should figure into the Knicks' frontcourt rotation.

Jason Smith ruled out for remainder of season

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2/3/14) The Pelicans announced Monday that forward Jason Smith will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing successful knee surgery last week.

Smith had loose bodies removed from his injured knee in last week's procedure, and his 10-point performance on Jan. 15 will end up being his final game of the season. He averaged 9.7 points and 5.8 rebounds in 31 games played.
