Smith out for year: Hornets general manager Dell Demps announced Friday that forward Jason Smith will be forced to miss the remainder of the season, as the torn labrum in his right shoulder will require surgery. He has been dealing with the injury since December, but re-aggravated it Tuesday to the point that surgery will be required. He was expected to wait until the offseason for surgery. | Fantasy Analysis |
Smith had appeared in 51 games this season, averaging 8.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while playing just 17 minutes. He is a solid backup big man, but rarely played a big enough role to be worth using in most Fantasy formats. He is under contract for one more year with the Hornets, but should be ignored in all Fantasy formats for the remainder of the season. (Updated 3/1/13). |
| Jason Smith had a solid season for the Hornets in his second year with the team. He started a career-high 29 games and shot a career-best 52 percent from the field. In fact, Smith recorded career highs in scoring (9.9 ppg), rebounding (4.9 rpg) and blocks (1.0 bpg). Unfortunately, the Hornets brought in Ryan Anderson from Orlando, who should take away some of Smith's minutes and is a much better scorer. Smith might even see a decrease in time on the court. As such, Smith will carry just low-end Fantasy value for the deepest of formats into next season. (Updated 8/22/12) |
