Fredette catches fire: Kings rookie guard Jimmer Fredette just missed a new career-high in scoring on Monday, as he put up 19 points in just 25 minutes against the Timberwolves, one short of his previous best. He saw his playing time go up in the absence of Marcus Thornton, who left with a bruised calf. Fredette scored his 19 points on 7 of 15 shooting, while making three from three-point range. His impact was felt less elsewhere in the box score, as he had just two rebounds and a steal while playing off the ball. (Updated 04/03/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
The Kings have experimented with Fredette at point guard, but now it looks like he may have the opportunity to earn some more time off the ball, where he could have more success. Fredette has struggled mightily in his rookie season, as the Kings have asked him to create for others, so it will be interesting to see what he does when he has an opportunity to work away from those responsibilities. Of course, his minutes are going to be dependent on Thorntons status, so keep an eye on that. Fantasy owners should consider Fredette just a low-end option even if he sees a bump in minutes. Tyreke Evans had 24 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists and the Sacramento Kings topped the slumping Minnesota Timberwolves 116-108 on Monday night.
Jimmer Fredette led the nation in scoring last season playing for BYU and he will be one of the rookies getting the most attention in Fantasy drafts. However, keep in mind that he will be on a team loaded with guards like Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton. He'll may be used as a source for scoring off the bench and as a perimeter role player, though he and Thornton could go back and forth as the season goes on. He'll be most useful in Rotisserie formats as a source for 3-pointers, but is not somebody we would suggest investing much more than a late-round pick on outside of keeper leagues. He can put the ball in the basket, but he likely won't average more than 10 shots per game in his rookie season. In keeper leagues, he will be worthy of a mid-round investment. (Updated 8/28/11)
