Preseason Outlook

Artest looks like himself again: Lakers F Ron Artest had his best game with his new team Tuesday night at the Oklahoma City Thunder. He scored 20 points with 6 assists, 3 rebounds and 5 steals in 47 minutes of action during the team's 101-98 overtime win. Artest had not scored more than 12 points in his first three games with the Lakers.

Fantasy Analysis

Artest is in line for a dip in production this season and it has nothing to do with his ability. As he displayed Tuesday night, he is perfectly capable of putting up these types of numbers, but the regularity of it is the problem. Once the Lakers get back to full strength with Pau Gasol returning, there simply won't be enough touches to go around to maintain Artest's scoring average around what Fantasy owners expect from him. He has not averaged under 15 points per game since 2001-02, but that's a distinct possibility this year. The peripheral numbers should remain excellent, making him still a very diversified option for category-based play. But the scoring production will likely take a dive.
