Odom 'getting better as time passes': Mavericks F Lamar Odom has gotten off to a slow start this season but coach Rick Carlisle told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Friday the he has seen improvement from the 32-year-old. He's come a long way there and our guys, I think, have come a long ways in terms of knowing how he plays within what we do," Carlisle said. "He's gotten gradually better and he's a key guy for us.'' Odom, who was acquired from the Lakers in the offseason, also sees improvement in himself. I'm learning and I'm getting better as time passes,'' Odom said. I'll get there - hopefully sooner.'' Fantasy Analysis
Odom is averaging 7.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists through 25 games this season. He also is shooting just 34.5 percent from the field and only 25.8 percent from beyond the three-point arc. Owners knew that it would take some time for Odom to gel with his new team and while his scoring has not gone up recently, he is starting to haul in more rebounds and dish out more assists. Keep an eye on his progress going forward as his numbers should continue to improve. But based on his production thus far, only have Odom active in deeper Fantasy leagues at this point. The Magic play five times in Week 5, making fringe options like J.J. Redick, Jason Richardson and Glen Davis decent Fantasy stopgaps. Our Adam Moore breaks down the week ahead.
Veteran F Lamar Odom put together one of his most productive seasons during the 2010-11 campaign and captured the NBA's Sixth Man Award as a result. His reward from the Lakers? A trade to Western Conference rival Dallas. Odom averaged 14.4 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting a career-best 53 percent from the floor with Los Angeles. Not bad for a player who had an average draft position of 81.3 last season. Odom also shot nearly 39 percent from 3-point range as he finished as the 15th highest scoring forward in all CBSSports.com standard Fantasy formats. While Odom developed into a solid option during his tenure with the Lakers, he does have a knack for being inconsistent. The 32-year-old will come off the bench again with the Mavericks, but he always seems to find a way to get his numbers. Consider him worthy of a selection beginning in the fifth round of 2011-12 Fantasy drafts. (Updated 12/16/11)
