Raja Bell announces his retirement from basketball
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(2/13/14) Raja Bell told TalkinHoopz.com on Thursday that he has retired from the game of basketball. |
Bell's playing days came to an abrupt end after what was described a toxic relationship with head coach Tyrone Corbin after he moved him to the bench. Bell also failed to make the Knicks' roster this summer.
The 37-year-old out of Florida International University spent 12 years in the league, including four seasons with Utah and Phoenix. He was a two-time All-Defensive team member, finishing with a career average of 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists on 43.4 percent shooting.
"Earlier this year I shut it down," Bell said. "I'm 37, I have three boys, I do miss it, but physically it wasn't realistic for me to keep training and keep putting my body through what I've been putting it through for the last 20 years."
Jazz part ways with Bell
|by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com|
|(3/10/13) The Jazz ended a year-long stalemate with guard Raja Bell on Sunday and released the 36-year-old in order to clear a spot on the active roster, The Salt Lake Tribune reports. Bell has not played for Utah since the end of last season and the two sides were unable to reach a buyout deal that would have facilitated his release sooner. He is now ineligible for postseason play if he signs with another team.
