Nuggets rule Arthur out Wednesday; Hickson questionable
|by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com|
|(4/1/15) The Nuggets will be without forward Darrell Arthur for Wednesday's game at Utah, reports The Denver Post.
Arthur has missed the last three games with a calf strain. Meanwhile, forward JJ Hickson is experiencing soreness in his right knee and he will be uniform Wednesday, but will only play if it's absolutely necessary.
The Nuggets are 5 1/2-point underdogs.
Report: Nuggets pushing Hickson-McGee combo for Nets' Lopez
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(1/30/15) The Nuggets have been reportedly targeting Nets center Brook Lopez in the run up to the trade deadline, and the team has been pushing a combination of big men JJ Hickson and JaVale McGee in talks with the Nets, ESPN reports.
The Nets, per the report, have refused the Nuggets offer for Lopez, who scored a season-high 35 points on 15 of 28 shooting Friday while hauling in 12 rebounds. The team should have plenty of interested parties looking to add Lopez and his upside before the deadline.
Nuggets PF JJ Hickson posts 15-14 line vs. Celtics Friday
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(1/23/15) Nuggets power forward JJ Hickson scored 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting while hauling in 14 rebounds in his team's 100-99 loss to the Celtics Friday.
Hickson put together his fifth double-double of January in 29 minutes off the bench, but it wasn't enough to keep the Nuggets from suffering their fifth straight loss. He also racked up three assists and two steals Friday. The Nuggets will square off with the Wizards Sunday.
Nuggets' JJ Hickson doubles up Mavericks in losing effort
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(1/16/15) Nuggets reserve JJ Hickson scored 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting and grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds in Denver's 97-89 loss to the Mavericks Friday. It was Hickson's sixth double-double of the season and third in his last five games.
Despite struggling at the free throw line, going 3 of 8, Hickson contributed well, adding one assist on the night. He also had five turnovers.
Trade could give JJ Hickson's value a boost for Nuggets
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(1/7/15) JJ Hickson might be the captain of the "Good in Fantasy, bad in real life" All-Stars, which is just fine for Fantasy owners, as long as he gets minutes. With the Nuggets' decision to move Timofey Mozgov Wednesday, a path to a larger role just may have opened up.
The Nuggets will likely lean on rookie Jusuf Nurkic at first, given how well he has played in his first NBA action. However, coach Brian Shaw likes Hickson, and should be willing to give him plenty of run as the backup. Hickson averaged 26.9 minutes per game a year ago, which was enough for him to register 11.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. With Nurkic still developing -- and prone to racking up fouls -- it's not hard to see Hickson eventually working his way into a larger role.
Hickson is worth a speculative add in deeper Fantasy leagues, but you shouldn't expect him to be a starting option right away. Still, the stars seem to be aligning for him, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he's racking up double-doubles on a lottery-bound Nuggets team by February.
|Nuggets center JJ Hickson was expected to be the No. 2 power forward for the Nuggets, behind Kenneth Faried, when he tore his ACL in late March. Although an original report had him out until at least January, Hickson remains hopeful of being on the court by the time the regular season starts. He seems a little bit ambitious about returning in time for the start of the season, so we'll have to keep a close eye on the big man. After signing with Denver last year, Hickson doubled up 26 times and averaged 11.8 points and 9.2 rebounds in 69 games. He also shot 50.8 percent from the field over that span. With nearly the entire team banged-up with injuries, Hickson stepped up and set a career-high with 24 boards against the Warriors on Jan. 15 and then snatched 25 rebounds against the Trail Blazer on Feb. 25. The season will start in late October, so he'll be roughly seven months removed from the procedure. The chances are slim that he’ll be ready to go in October. Hickson could be worth a late flyer on Draft Day.
