"It just didn't work out," coach Tyler Corbin said of Weaver's release. However, he then went on to say the team might invite him to training camp next season. |
Weaver drops career-high on Kings
(4/3/11) Jazz guard Kyle Weaver, who was signed to a 10-day contract after a callup from the NBDL Wednesday, set a career-high in his second game of the year Sunday against the Kings. He shot 7 of 11 from the floor on the way to 19 points, burying a trio of 3-pointers along the way. Weaver wasn't just a scorer for Utah, he did a little bit of everything to make an impression. He assisted on three baskets and pulled down a pair of rebounds in 30 minutes of playing time. Defensively, Weaver blocked two shots and got his hands on a steal in the tough loss.
Jazz sign Weaver
(3/30/11) The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the Jazz plan to sign guard Kyle Weaver to a 10-day contract after calling him up from the NBA Development League's Austin Toros. Utah GM Kevin O'Connor announced the move Wednesday. "We like his experience," O'Connor said. "We like the fact that he can play a couple different positions." With Utah's Raja Bell, Andrei Kirilenko, Devin Harris and Ronnie Price out Friday against the Los Angeles Lakers due to injuries, O'Connor said that Weaver will help fill out a depleted roster. Weaver is expected to sign with the Jazz and practice Thursday, and should be available for the Lakers game. "Obviously, we're down some guards," O'Connor said. "I think our commitment to both the members of the team and to the fans we don't want to be playing people totally out of position. We could've wound up in a situation where it could've been really difficult for us to field enough guards to play."
