Pekovic misses finale : Timberwolves center Nikola Pekovic was hoping to return Wednesday for the team's season finale, but he will miss his fourth game in a row with a left calf contusion. Pekovic has missed 20 games this season, after missing 19 a year ago. (Updated 4/17/13) |

| Fantasy Analysis |
When healthy, Pekovic has established himself as a viable starting option at center for any NBA team. His skill set should create a big market for him as a restricted free agent, but it would be a surprise if the Timberwolves let him walk. He is averaging 16.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, despite playing just 31.6 minutes. No matter where he lands, Pekovic is going to be a starter, so plan on targeting him with a mid-round pick on Draft Day next season. (Updated 4/17/13). |
| There wasn't a ton of Fantasy owners who even knew who Nikola Pekovic was when the 2011-12 campaign started but boy did that sure change. After averaging just 6.0 points and 2.2 rebounds over the first nine games of the year, Pekovic made his presence felt once he was inserted into the starting lineup. The 26-year-old averaged 15.7 points and 8.7 rebounds over his final 38 games and notched 16 double-doubles over that stretch. He shot 55 percent from the field and more than proved he could co-exist with Kevin Love also lurking in the paint. The Timberwolves finally decided to give up on the Darko Milacic experiment, meaning Pekovic will be the team's starting center from day one. With the promise of seeing 30-plus minutes per game, there doesn't seem to be much to indicate that he won't be able to at least duplicate his production from last year. Still, because he is still a bit unproven no one is ready to throw him into mix of being considered an elite Fantasy big man. Although, with center being such a thin position, owners should consider scooping up Pekovic once the top-tier centers are off the board. (Updated 8/22/12) |
