Kings deal Landry, Thompson, Stauskas to 76ers
|by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer|
|(7/2/15) The Kings completed a deal with the 76ers late Wednesday, moving Carl Landry, Jason Thompson and Nik Stauskas and a first-round draft pick to Philly in exchange for future draft picks and a pair of foreign players drafted in the second round, per ESPN.
The move opens up nearly $15 million in cap space for the Kings as they try to bring in marquee free agents.
Landry averaged 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds last season, Thompson tallied 6.1 points and 6.5 rebounds and Stauskas registered 4.4 points, but the former first-round pick could become a valuable asset in the 76ers fast-paced scheme.
Kings coach Karl prefers forward Jason Thompson off the bench
|(3/17/15) Kings coach George Karl said he likes forward Jason Thompson coming off the bench because he's a better fit with reserve point guard Andre Miller, according to CowbellKingdom.com.|
After starting 50 of the Kings' first 61 games this season Thompson has come off the bench for the last five.
Miller has served as the Kings' backup point guard since being acquired Feb. 19 in a trade with the Wizards.
Kings' Jason Thompson shifted to reserve role
|by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer|
|(3/11/15) Kings coach George Karl has decided to move forward Jason Thompson to the bench in the hopes of sparking the team’s second unit, according to The Sacramento Bee.
Thompson has started 55 games for Sacramento this season, but Karl hopes that working with veteran point guard Andre Miller can increase Thompson’s productivity.
In 61 contests, Thompson is averaging 5.7 points and 6.4 rebounds.
Kings' PF Jason Thompson doubles up vs. Spurs
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(2/28/15) Kings power forward Jason Thompson scored 12 points on 6 of 10 shooting while hauling in 11 rebounds in his team's 107-96 loss to the Spurs Friday.
Thompson hadn't posted a double-double in more than a month before recording 10 points and 11 rebounds Wednesday, and he put one together just one game later. He attempted at least 10 shots Friday for just the fifth time this season, adding two assists and one block in 33 minutes.
The Kings will square off with the Blazers Sunday.
Report: Camp of Kings' Jason Thompson hopes he will be traded
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(2/15/15) Kings forward Jason Thompson is reportedly looking to be traded and members of his camp are hoping to get him traded before Thursday's deadline, according to Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports.
Thompson, who is averaging 5.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, has been playing a small role off the bench in Sacramento, playing 20 minutes per game over his last 10 contests. He was discussed earlier in the year as a part of a trade with the Nets, but the discussions stalled and never came to fruition.
|There doesn't seem to be much room for a rebounding specialist next to DeMarcus Cousins, but the Kings might have no choice but to continue rolling out Jason Thompson at power forward. He only scored a career-low 7.1 points in the 24.5 minutes per game he was allotted last season, so the Kings could be shifting to a power forward by committee approach until they find the guy they're looking for. Considering he ended the season owned in just 24 percent of leagues, it's safe to leave Thompson off of draft boards given the Kings current roster makeup. Deep and maybe some 12-team leagues might take a late-round flier on him, but don't pass up anyone with a solidified role to draft Thompson.
