| Fantasy Analysis |
Westbrook is now officially done for the remainder of the playoffs and that means the Thunder suffer a massive hit to their quest to return to the NBA Finals. The dynamic point guard scored 23.2 points per game this season. In addition, he had played in every regular-season and postseason game with Oklahoma City since entering the league in 2008-09. The Thunder will miss Westbrook's craft of creating shots for himself and others (7.4 assists per game), and will now turn to Reggie Jackson at the point. He should be ready to roll for the start of next season and is still worth a selection among the first 10 players taken in all Fantasy drafts. (Updated 4/27/13). |
| Russell Westbrook's fourth year in the league was an interesting one to say the least. The 23-year-old entered the 2011-12 campaign with something to prove and did just that, averaging a career-high 23.6 points per game. However, his increased scoring came at a price as his assists numbers took a big hit. Westbrook averaged a career-low 5.6 dimes per game last season, which raised more questions about whether he could co-exist alongside with fellow ball hawk Kevin Durant. Still, most of the doubts were brushed aside as the Thunder advanced all the way to NBA Finals but were once again raised after Westbrook struggled mightily vs. the Heat. The knock on Westbrook was the score-first approach he took for much of the season, especially with his jump shot. The former UCLA Bruin averaged career-highs in made field goals (8.8), field goals attempted (19.8) as well as 3-pointers attempted per game (3.0). While he did increase his shooting percentage from 44.2 to 45.7 percent, he shot just 31 percent from behind the arc and saw a huge decrease in free-throws made and attempted as well. However, Westbrook still finished second to only Chris Paul as the top scoring Fantasy guard, in terms of Fantasy points, in all Head-to-Head formats and vowed to come back better even next season. Because Westbrook has been in the league for four years already it sometimes becomes easy to forget that he is only 23. Most feel he hasn't even scratched the surface of his potential yet and we tend to agree with that claim. Westbrook should be one of the first guards snatched up on Draft Day next fall.
