Rockets' Donatas Motiejunas scores career-high 26 Friday
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(1/30/15) Rockets power forward Donatas Motiejunas scored a career-high 26 points on 11 of 16 shooting, including 3 of 5 shooting from behind the arc, while hauling in 12 rebounds in his team's 93-87 win over the Celtics Friday.
Motiejunas matched his season-high in rebounds while topping his previous career high of 25 points, set in mid-December of this season.
"His size, first and foremost, was a problem. You could see that right out of the gate," Celtics coach Brad Stevens said after the game, per the Associated Press.
Motiejunas also chipped in one assist while posting his fifth double-double. The Rockets will square off with the Pistons Saturday.
Donatas Motiejunas fitting right in as a starter
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(1/13/15) The Rockets quickly abandoned the experiment of starting Josh Smith after four games, and the 1-3 record isn't the only reason for that move. The play of Donatas Motiejunas has been a much bigger reason, as the third-year big man has emerged as a truly reliable option for the Rockets next to Dwight Howard.
Motiejunas showed flashes of potential in his first two seasons, but never put it all together for long enough stretches to rely on. He was a bit too jumper happy, but couldn't hit even 30 percent of his shots from 3-point range. He has largely scrapped the perimeter aspect of his game, with 88.0 percent of his shots coming within 10 feet of the rim.
That might not seem to work too well with Dwight Howard around, but the duo has made it work of late, with Motiejunas averaging 14.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game on 61.9 percent shooting since returning to the starting lineup. He probably can't keep that kind of shooting up, but Motiejunas is clearly a good player, and they have figured out how to make him and Howard fit together.
Motiejunas can contribute just enough 3-point shooting to boost his Fantasy value, and it doesn't look like he's going anywhere. Though he would have even more value if he was eligible at center in CBSSports.com leagues, Motiejunas is a solid option to have around as a low-end starter at forward, and is a great handcuff for Howard.

Rockets PF Donatas Motiejunas scores career-high 25 Saturday
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(12/13/14) Rockets power forward Donatas Motiejunas scored a career-high 25 points on 11 of 19 shooting, including 2 of 4 shooting from three-point range, in his team's 108-96 win over the Nuggets Saturday.
Motiejunas has become a scoring factor over the last two weeks, rattling off seven straight double-digit efforts. He finished just behind James Harden in field goals attempted on the Rockets while also delivering five rebounds, one assist and one steal in 32 minutes. The Rockets will square off with the Nuggets again Wednesday.
Rockets to pick up options on Terrence Jones, Donatas Motiejunas
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(9/30/14) The Rockets intend to pick up the fourth-year option on the contracts of Terrence Jones and Donatas Motiejunas, according to the Houston Chronicle on Tuesday. Head coach Kevin McHale also indicated that the power forward position is an "open competition" heading into the start of training camp.
|Though he was fairly productive in what few minutes Houston gave him, Donatas Motiejunas didn't come close to a worthwhile pickup in Fantasy. He's young, he's tall and he can shoot, so perhaps there will be more work for him this season. Still, it's hard to see the 22-year-old Lithuanian getting major minutes on a team with championship aspirations. Leave this name off of draft boards unless you play in a ultra-deep Rotisserie league. Keep an eye on him throughout the season though, as there will be minutes to go around in Houston. A good showing at the Las Vegas Summer League might also justify more minutes for Motiejuanas.
