Report: Trail Blazers to sign PF Ed Davis

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(7/2/15) According to a report from Yahoo Sports, the Trail Blazers will sign former Lakers forward Ed Davis to a three-year, $20 million contract.

Davis had a breakout campaign for the Lakers in his fifth NBA campaign, averaging a career-high 8.3 points and 7.6 rebounds in 79 games last season. He opted out of his contract at the end of the season, setting the stage for a big pay day.

According to the report, the Blazers are still trying to re-sign forward LaMarcus Aldridge, and Davis could provide depth if Aldridge stays or a new starter at the position if Aldridge leaves.

Report: Lakers forward Ed Davis opts out of contract

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(6/24/15) As expected, Lakers forward Ed Davis has decided to opt out of his contract, according to BasketballInsiders.com.

Davis had previously said he planned to opt out of the contract and become a free agent. In 79 games last season, David averaged 8.3 points and 7.6 rebounds.

Ed Davis plans to opt out, hopes to return to Lakers

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(6/20/15) Lakers forward Ed Davis plans to opt out of his $1.1 million player option this week. Davis hopes to get a long-term contract, and he hopes it will be with the Lakers.

“I definitely want to be back,” Davis told the Los Angeles News Group. “With everything being equal, I’m 100 percent going back there. Hopefully that’s the case. But with free agency and all the stuff going on with the draft, you never know how things are going to go.”

Davis averaged 8.3 points and 7.6 rebounds for the Lakers last year, both career highs.

PF Ed Davis seeks improvement to be 'in a great situation'

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4/16/15) Power forward Ed Davis has already played for three teams in his five-year career and could very well make it four. After all, he has already declared his intention to test the free agent market.

But he also knows he must make himself attractive to potential suitors. So he plans on working to better his game.

"I still have a lot to prove," he told ESPN. "I want to improve my free throw shooting and my shot ... I'm going to put in a lot of work this summer."

Davis did indeed struggle finding the bottom of the net at the line for the Lakers this year. He hit just 48.7 percent of his foul shots.

Coming off a season in which he averaged career-highs in points (8.3) and rebounds (7.6), he is expressing modest professional desires.

"I'm not out here to chase money," he said via the Los Angeles Daily News. "I just want to be in a great situation."

Lakers forward Ed Davis to opt for free agency this offseason

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3/30/15) Lakers forward Ed Davis is not happy with his role. So much so, he said Sunday he intends to test free agency this summer, according to the L.A. Times.

"Honestly, I don't like it," Davis said before Sunday's game. "I didn't ask to sit out or anything. I wanted to play 82 games this year. But, you know, it's not my decision."

Davis is averaging 8.4 points and 7.5 rebounds in 71 games this season.

"Like I said, I wanted to play all 82," he said. "I'm going to support the guys and be there, stay professional and stay ready."
