Hayward a second-half player: For the third time in three years, Jazz forward Gordon Hayward upped his scoring in the second half of the season. After averaging 13.5 points per game prior to the All-Star break, Hayward found himself in the starting lineup and playing a bigger role in the second half. He upped his scoring to 15.1 per game on 44.4 percent shooting, and he increased his playmaking, dishing out 3.7 assists per game. Hayward is now averaging 4.5 points per game more in the second half of seasons (13.1 per game) than the first (8.6). (Updated 4/24/13) |

Hayward is entering the fourth and final season of his rookie contract, and the Jazz would certainly like for him to prove he can be a consistent contributor. A part of the reason for his improved play in the second half has been that the coaching staff has trusted him more with a larger role, and that is a trend we would like to see from day one next season. Hayward has tremendous upside, he just has to put everything together. Hayward finished in the top 50 among both forwards and guards in Fantasy scoring last season, and should be targeted beginning in the middle rounds on Draft Day in most formats. (Updated 4/24/13). |

| Faced with the challenge of moving to the starting lineup full-time during his second NBA season, Gordon Hayward handled the transition nicely and increased his scoring average more than six points from his rookie year. With his playing time hovering around 30-35 minutes a night -- even 40-plus in the last month of the season -- Hayward poured in a clip of 11.8 points per game, up from a meager 5.4 the previous year. During one stretch, the former Butler star posted double-digits in scoring during nine consecutive outings -- he had just 15 such occasions during his entire rookie season (72 games). With the Jazz continuing its youth movement, Hayward should be slotted in the starting lineup again this year. The sharpshooter won't contribute much in other categories, but is highly accurate and ranked fifth among all shooting guards in the NBA with a 45.6 percent field-goal percentage last year. Fantasy owners should look to him as a rising option worthy of a selection in the middle rounds of most drafts, with a bump in value for Rotisserie formats. (Updated 8/22/12) |
