Wizards behind Wall: The Washington Post reports that Wizards general manager Ernie Grunfeld hopes to have guard John Wall with the team for a long time. "I think John had a very good year, and he showed that he makes a difference on the team," Grunfeld said. "Theres no question about that, and hes eligible for an extension. July 1 is the first day we can talk about that, and well have conversations with him, his representatives, to see if we can work something out
Obviously, weve said all along that were building this team around John and with John. We want to have him here long term." (Updated 4/24/13) |

The Wizards will likely give Wall a max deal, especially with the way he played this season. Despite missing the first 33 games of the season due to knee surgery, Wall returned and had a career year. He set career highs in points (18.5), field-goal percentage (44.1) and free-throw percentage (80.4) while still doing a nice job in assists (7.6), steals (1.3) and rebounds (4.0). Wall looks like a No. 1 Fantasy guard, and he's worth drafting next season as early as Round 2. (Updated 4/24/13). |

Offseason Extra: Five burning questions
Is LeBron James the No. 1 pick? Is that the end of the argument, even in a Roto league? Chris Towers answers five burning questions as we start thinking about next season.
|
| The whispers are beginning to grow louder, but it's not John Wall's fault. After turning in what many onlookers considered a mediocre second NBA season, the former top overall pick has started to hear claims that he could become the latest bust selected first overall. And there could be some validity to the arguments as he experienced a dip in points, rebounds and assists last year from his rookie campaign. But it's difficult to fault Wall for the shortcomings as Washington endured another tumultuous season that included immense turnover in the frontcourt. With the Wizards struggling to establish a presence in the paint last year, Wall was unable to free himself along the perimeter and shot just 3 for 42 (.071) from downtown. And just one of those treys came in the final two months of the season. Still, the 6-foot-4 slasher, who will turn only 22 before the start of the regular season, remained a workhorse and appeared in every game while only four other players collected more minutes than him. He still showed some insecurity with the ball and led the NBA with 255 total turnovers despite showing averaging 8.0 assists per game. Now in this third season, that number could increase as Washington spent the offseason shorting up its frontcourt with the addition of Emeka Okafor and a healthy Nene. Wall still has the potential to be an elite point guard in the league and should be taken no later than the third round in all Fantasy drafts as he could out-produce that position this season.
