Fields gets hot for New York: New York guard Landry Fields started off hot on Tuesday night in an eventual loss to the Pacers. Fantasy Analysis
Fields had scored just two more points than Tuesday's total in his previous three games combined. He is a streaky shooter and sometimes he doesn't even shoot at all. New York could use more scoring out of him with Amar'e Stoudemire and Jeremy Lin both out, but we still think Fields is just a low-end Fantasy option despite starting for the Knicks. 04/30/2012 11:17 Tyson Chandler will start for Knicks in Game 2, Fields starts for Shumpert
Mike Woodson told reporters at shootaround Monday that Tyson Chandler will start despite lingering effects of the flu. The decision comes as no surprise considering Chandler played Saturday in the Knicks' blowout loss to the Heat in Game 1.
The 23-year-old Fields played in all 82 games as a rookie last season and started in 81 of those contests. He was perhaps the most pleasant surprise of the entire rookie class as he averaged 9.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists and a steal per game while shooting 40 percent from 3-point range and 50 percent from the field. Unfortunately, Fields’ production really took a hit once Chauncey Billups and Carmelo Anthony came over from Denver. Fields’ scoring dropped by a full point after the All-Star break and his rebounding dropped by over two boards per game. A year older, Fields will certainly be a major contributor alongside Billups in the backcourt, and coach Mike D’Antoni could ask him to score even more in his high-tempo offense. That being said, expectations must be curbed because the Knicks have so much firepower. The Stanford product will certainly be a viable Fantasy weapon in his sophomore season, but is someone to target late on Draft Day as a guard sitting right outside the top 60. (Updated 8/23/11)
