Bulls still waiting on Mirotic: The Bulls selected Nikola Mirotic with the 24th pick in the 2011 draft knowing that they would have to wait a few years to get him over from Europe. General manager Gar Forman told local radio Thursday that they will have to keep waiting, as Mirotic is not expected to join the team until the summer of 2014. "You're slotted in the first round, and I think the slot for No. 24 is $1.3 or $1.4 million," Forman said, via ESPN.com. "Well, he makes a lot more money than that right now over at Real Madrid. So the way the CBA is written is after three years then you're no longer slotted. Then you can use whether it's exception room or cap room in order to pay a guy." Mirotic is a 6-foot-10 22-year-old out of Montenegro, who was compared to Dirk Nowitzki and Danilo Gallinari by Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph after an exhibition, according to ESPN.com. Forman raves about Mirotic's talent, saying he is expected to win the Euroleague's Rising Star award for the third time. Mirotic is averaging 11.9 points in just 24.7 minutes per game for Real Madrid this season, while showing the ability to shoot from all over the floor. The Bulls certainly need some offensive punch, but it will not come from overseas this summer. Outside of the deepest dynasty and keeper leagues, Mirotic continues to have no value at this time, but he could be an impactful player down the stretch. (Updated 4/11/13). |
