Report: Nikola Mirotic headed stateside
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(7/4/14) The Bulls have reached an agreement to buy out the remainder of European prospect Nikola Mirotic's contract with Real Madrid, meaning he should make his NBA debut this season.

HoopsHype.com reports Mirotic has decided to join the Bulls after the team agreed to buy out his contract for more than $3 million. Mirotic won the Spanish League MVP in 2013 and is a two-time All-ACB selection. The 2011 first-round pick averaged 11.6 points on 50.6 percent shooting in ACB games last season.

Bulls still waiting on Mirotic
(4/11/13) The Bulls selected Nikola Mirotic with the 24th pick in the 2011 draft knowing that they would have to wait a few years to get him over from Europe. General manager Gar Forman told local radio Thursday that they will have to keep waiting, as Mirotic is not expected to join the team until the summer of 2014. "You're slotted in the first round, and I think the slot for No. 24 is $1.3 or $1.4 million," Forman said, via ESPN.com. "Well, he makes a lot more money than that right now over at Real Madrid. So the way the CBA is written is after three years then you're no longer slotted. Then you can use whether it's exception room or cap room in order to pay a guy." Mirotic is a 6-foot-10 22-year-old out of Montenegro, who was compared to Dirk Nowitzki and Danilo Gallinari by Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph after an exhibition, according to ESPN.com.
Bulls to keep Mirotic overseas
(6/27/11) The Chicago Tribune reports that Bulls rookie forward Nikola Mirotic will likely remain overseas for 2011-12. League sources said Mirotic's buyout from Real Madrid stands at roughly 2 million Euros. That number obviously is negotiable, but the plan for now is to keep Mirotic, 20, overseas for at least two or three seasons of his five-year deal.
Bulls trade for Mirotic
(6/24/11) The Sports Xchange reports that the Bulls had no need for three rookies on next year's roster, so they sent the No. 28 and 43 picks to Minnesota for the No. 23 selection, which was used on 6-10 forward Nikola Mirotic. Mirotic won the Euroleague's Rising Star Award this season while playing for Real Madrid. He also signed a five-year contract and is likely to remain in Spain for a few years.
