| Fantasy Analysis |
Barton had a hard time seeing much court time during his rookie campaign as he was used mostly in a reserve role. However, he did average 16.3 points 7.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.7 steals over his last six games -- five starts. Hopefully he can continue to develop his game over the summer enough to become a consistent contributor next year. However, as things stand right now, Barton only has value in deeper long-term keeper/dynasty formats. (Updated 4/22/13). |

| Will Barton was selected with the 40th overall pick in last summer's draft as the Trail Blazers scooped him up in the second round. While most second rounders are not offered guaranteed contracts, Barton was, which should tell Fantasy owners something about how Portland feels about the rookie. The 22-year-old averaged 18.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 50.9 percent from during his last year at Memphis and also thrived while playing in the Summer League. Most expect fellow rookie Damian Lilliard to assume to starting point guard duties right off the bat, although Barton figures to see extensive minutes at both guard spots at times next year. While Barton looks to have a real chance to work his way into the rotation, owners should take more of a wait-and-see approach with him heading into the season. Only owners in deeper formats should consider scooping him up in the later rounds. (Updated 8/22/12) |
