Mavericks coach tells Jae Crowder not to worry about free agency
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(10/7/14) Mavericks forward Jae Crowder could hit the free-agent market next summer. Though, coach Rick Carlisle doesn't want the third-year pro to worry about that during the 2014-15 season, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
"I had a meeting with Carlisle about two months ago in Vegas," Crowder said. "We had dinner at a steakhouse and the one thing he told me is don’t worry about [free agency] -- that’s going to take care of itself. Especially if we’re winning, it’s going to take care of itself. Just keep playing the same way."
Crowder believes if he can improve his shooting accuracy and range, then his playing time might increase this season after he averaged 4.6 points and 2.5 rebounds in 16.1 minutes per game last season.
"I’ve got to have consistency in my shooting and I need to work on my body, and of course, I’m trying to be a better athlete and trying to be bigger, faster and stronger," Crowder said. "I don’t want to have any lapses."
Jae Crowder eased back into action Sunday

|(3/16/14) Mavericks forward Jae Crowder, who practiced Friday, returned to action on Sunday against the Thunder.|
Crowder was eased back into action, logging 16 minutes off the bench. He was held scoreless on 0 of 2 from the floor, also adding three rebounds and one assist. He is averaging just 3.0 points and 2.0 rebounds over his last three appearances.
Jae Crowder back at practice Friday
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(3/14/14) Mavericks forward Jae Crowder returned to practice on Friday as he continues to recover from an abdominal strain, according to the team's official website. |
Crowder underwent an MRI earlier in the week. Although the team did not announced the results of the exam, Crowder's return to practice suggests that it may have come back negative. His status remains uncertain for Sunday against the Thunder.
|The Mavericks might need more help from the young, athletic small forward this season, but Jae Crowder is probably still a year or two away from Fantasy relevance. Dallas brought in Chandler Parsons and Richard Jefferson, so even if they're without Shawn Marion and Vince Carter this year, Crowder's spot in the pecking order will likely remain the same. Keep an eye on his three-point shooting and rebounding for Rotisserie leagues when you need help later on in the year, but go ahead and ignore Crowder on Draft Day.
