Magic to make Harkless, Nicholson inactive for Wednesday's game
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
|(1/21/15) The Magic will list Maurice Harkless and Andrew Nicholson as inactive for Wednesday's game against the Pistons, according to the team's website.
Nicholson has already missed the past four games, so the news shouldn't come as a surprise for him. Harkless had been seeing time with Tobias Harris sidelined, but will not play now that Harris is ready to return.
Vaughn preparing Magic SF Harkless for all roles
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(12/18/14) Magic small forward Maurice Harkless has played 25 minutes in the last two games combined. That might not seem like much until one considers he was a DNP in eight of the previous nine.
Harkless was just 1 of 3 from the field in the two recent efforts, but that will not prevent him from earning more extended playing time, according to Jacque Vaughn.
Vaughn said he has talked to Harkless in conversations "geared towards accepting your responsibility of your profession," per the Orlando Sentinel. "This is what you signed up for, and there's no guarantee there's minutes for you. You earn those minutes. You produce those minutes.
"And when you're not in the rotaion, there's still a responsibility that you have to have: of having yourself ready, whether that's extra running, whether that's extra film work, whether that's having the mindset that, 'I'm a backup quarterback and the starter could go down on one play and I need to be prepared just as if I was the starter."
Magic F Maurice Harkless gets his first action of the season
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(11/2/14) Magic forward Maurice Harkless, who started 41 games last season but didn't play in the first two, finally saw his first action of the season during Saturday's 108-95 defeat to the Raptors.
Harkless scored seven points on 3 of 6 shooting from the field, including 1 of 3 from downtown. He added five rebounds, two assists, one steal and one rebound while logging 22 minutes of game action.
Magic guard Victor Oladipo out indefinitely with facial fracture
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(10/24/14) Magic guard Victor Oladipo has been making progress in his recovery from a knee sprain, but was already uncertain for the team's season opener Tuesday. Friday he received more bad news, as the team announced he is out indefinitely with a facial fracture and will almost certainly miss the start of the regular season.
The injury occurred during practice Thursday, when he took an elbow to the face. He will undergo surgery Saturday, the team announced, and at this point it is not clear how long the injury is expected to keep Oladipo out or who might step into the starting lineup for him. Evan Fournier and Maurice Harkless have both filled in at shooting guard in the preseason, and seem to be the top contenders.
Oladipo managed to avoid injury almost entirely last season, as he averaged 13.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 80 games en route to a second place finish in Rookie of the Year.
Maurice Harkless shows signs of life
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(2/25/14) Magic forward Maurice Harkless snapped out of a long drought Tuesday, matching his season high in scoring in a 115-106 loss to the Wizards.
Harkless played 38 minutes in the game, his highest total since mid-January. He scored 22 points on 9 of 13 shooting, with a pair of 3-pointers made, while adding five rebounds. He did turn the ball over four times in the loss, matching his second-highest total of the season.
Harkless has failed to take the expected step forward in his second season in the league, having been surpassed by other options. He is averaging just 6.7 points per game while appearing in 57 of 59 games.
|Maurice Harkless found his three-point shot, but that was about all that went right for him in his second year in the league. Harkless appeared in four more games as a sophomore, but actually ended up playing fewer minutes than he did as a rookie overall. As a result, his scoring average fell to 7.4 per game, while he added just 3.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.6 blocks per game. Though Harkless is just 21, the Magic already seem eager to move away from him, as they drafted Aaron Gordon No. 4 overall this offseason, likely moving Harkless to a reserve role full time. Harkless has some potential, but is unlikely to live up to it in his expected role, and can be left off your board outside of deeper category-based Fantasy formats.
