Jenkins sharp in return : Hawks guard John Jenkins did not seem to show any ill-effects from his concussion during Saturday's contest against the Spurs. Jenkins, who had missed the past four games while dealing with post-concussion symptoms, finished with a career-best 23 points in the 99-97 defeat. He went 7 of 9 from the field, including hitting on all three of his attempts from the behind the arc, and also added four assists and four rebounds to his stat line, while logging 28 minutes off the bench. | Fantasy Analysis |
Jenkins not only was able to return to the court Saturday, but he played his best game of the season. However, owners should take this performance with a grain of salt. Keep in mind Atlanta only had eight healthy bodies available with Josh Smith, Al Horford, Kyle Korver and Devin Harris all out with injuries. Still, it was nice to see the rookie step up when needed and he looks to all the tools necessary to succeed in this league. However, at this point in the year, Jenkins should really only be owned in deeper long-term keeper formats. (Updated 4/6/13). |
| Jenkins was selected with 23rd overall pick in last summer’s draft which was considered a bit of a reach by some. The 21-year-old was the best perimeter shooter in NCAA Division I last season as he made 47.4 percent of his shots while averaging 19.9 points per game, which also ranked tops in all of college basketball. While there is little doubt about Jenkins ability to shot the ball, there are some concerns about his ability to defend and drive in the paint. Still, the Hawks are looking at Jenkins as more of a long-term project, which is evidenced by the team bringing in shooting guards Lou Williams, Anthony Morrow and Kyle Korver. While the rookie could get some run at the end of coach Larry Drew’s rotation, he is not expected to have a huge impact right away. Only owners in the deepest of long-term keeper formats should consider taking a late-round flier on Jenkins. (Updated 10/11/12) |
