We hope the break in action won't slow down Kidd-Gilchrist since he was playing well prior to missing the Bobcats game. The rookie was putting up 13.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and 1.0 assists on 56 percent shooting from the field over his last five contests prior to Monday, and we hope he can finish the season strong. It appears safe to make him active Wednesday. (Updated 4/3/13). |
| The Bobcats scooped up Michael Kidd-Gilchrist with the second pick in this summer's draft with the expectation that he will be the team's starting small forward of the future. The soon-to-be 19-year-old averaged 11.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 0.9 blocks over 40 games in his lone college season for Kentucky and developed a reputation as a relentless competitor and defender. He shot 49 percent from the floor, albeit most of those were on drives to the hoop. One of the biggest knocks on his game is his ability to knock down jumps shots and he also has trouble handling the ball at times, but both of those aspects of his game will develop over time. MKG is expected to be in the team's starting lineup on opening day, making him one of the few rookies who should be able to contribute right away. While he may not be asked to shoulder a huge load on the offense side of the ball right away, the promise of seeing starter's minutes alone will give him value in deeper formats. Look for the rookie for flirt with double-digit scoring on most nights while chipping in with a healthy number of rebounds to go along block or two. Fantasy owners should consider MKG as a low-end forward with a ton of upside worthy of a late-round pick in most formats next fall. (Updated 8/22/12) |
