Melo happy with season spent developing: Celtics center Fab Melo has not made much of an impact in his first NBA season, playing just 19 total minutes for the Celtics so far. Still, the season has not been a total waste, as the 22-year-old has been able to develop his game in the D-League, while still gaining valuable practice time with the veterans on the NBA roster. "I enjoy my time while I'm in Maine, and I'm getting better by playing a lot of minutes in our games," Melo said to RidiculousUpside.com, a website dedicated to covering the D-League. "I feel like I'm able to develop my game during my time with the team." Melo has appeared in 22 games for the Maine Red Claws, averaging 10.9 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per game. | Fantasy Analysis |
The Celtics have really taken advantage of the close proximity with their D-League team, allowing Melo time to work with the coaching staff. We knew it would be a learning process for Melo, after the Celtics selected him with the 22nd overall pick in last year's draft. Melo has scored just five points total in the NBA this season. Melo has a bright future as a defensive game changer in the middle, but Fantasy owners can safely ignore him in all formats for the remainder of the season. (Updated 3/27/13). |
| The Celtics had an offseason goal of getting younger and bigger, and they accomplished both goals in the draft, when they selected Fab Melo of Syracuse with one of two first-round picks. Melo is a true seven-footer who was a defensive force in college, averaging 2.9 blocks in 25.4 minutes per game as a Sophomore. The 22-year-old out of Brazil will likely take Greg Stiemsma's place in the rotation as the backup center, and while the Celtics seem to like his potential, he is still a very raw prospect, especially offensively. It would be a surprise to see Melo make an impact next season, so leave him undrafted in most leagues for his rookie season. (Updated 8/21/12) |
