Report: Magic plan to make qualifying offer to Kyle O'Quinn
|by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com|
|(4/14/15) The Magic intend to offer forward Kyle O'Quinn a qualifying offer in July, sources told the Orlando Sentinel.
If O'Quinn is issued a qualifying offer, he would become a restricted free agent with the Magic able to match any offer sheet O'Quinn signs with another team.
O'Quinn is in his third season with the Magic and averages 5.7 points and 3.8 rebounds in 50 games.
Magic fire coach Jacque Vaughn after two-plus seasons
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(2/5/15) After a week of reports that the front office was not happy with his job, the Orlando Magic have fired coach Jacque Vaughn on Thursday. The team will hold a press conference later in the day to announce his departure. Former video coordinator James Borrego will be the team's interim coach. Scott Skiles has also emerged as a serious candidate to replace Vaughn, per Wojnarowski.
General manager Rob Hennigan released the following statement:
"Jacque (Vaughn) has been a trusted friend and colleague," said Hennigan. "We thank him immensely for his contributions and sacrifices in bringing our team to this point, and we greatly appreciate his unwavering commitment to our organization. We have tremendous respect for Jacque and certainly wish him the best as he embarks on the next phase of his career."
Vaughn's team was in the midst of a 10-game losing streak, the second-longest slide in his tenure. They also own the fifth-worst record in the NBA (15-37), which puts them 13th in the Eastern Conference, 7 1/2 games behind the eighth and final playoff spot.
Vaughn was an assistant for the San Antonio Spurs before replacing Stan Van Gundy as coach of the Magic in 2012, following the Dwight Howard era. The 39-year-old was tasked to rebuild the team after Van Gundy led Orlando to an NBA Finals appearance in 2009, drafting players like Andrew Nicholson, Kyle O'Quinn, Victor Oladipo, Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton. He owns a 58-158 record during his three-year tenure with a young core of players. His 26.9 win percentage was the lowest among any coach franchise history.
Magic rule Aaron Gordon out of Wednesday's game
|by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com|
|(2/4/15) Citing general soreness in his left foot, the Magic ruled forward Aaron Gordon out of Wednesday's game at San Antonio, reports the Orlando Sentinel.
Gordon missed more than 30 games earlier this season after fracturing the foot in November. In 19 games, he is averaging 6.2 points and 3.4 rebounds. Forward Kyle O'Quinn could see an expanded role with Gordon out.
The Magic are 13 1/2-point underdogs.
Magic's Kyle O'Quinn gets double-double in second start
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(12/23/14) Magic forward Kyle O'Quinn had 18 points and 13 rebounds in Orlando's win Tuesday over the Celtics. It was the second straight game O'Quinn was given the starting role for the Magic and he contributed well, adding two steals and one block.
It was O'Quinn's third double-double of the season and seventh of his career.
Magic forward Kyle O'Quinn doubles up on the Hawks
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
|(12/12/14) Magic forward Kyle O'Quinn doubled up on the Hawks on Friday.
O'Quinn shot 5-10 from the field. He hit 4-5 of his free throw attempts, finishing with 14 points. O'Quinn was active on the boards, pulling down 10 rebounds.
|Kyle O'Quinn went from a non-factor to a borderline starting caliber Fantasy option during the second half of the season, as he averaged 9.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game after the All-Star break. Of course, that was largely the result of injuries in the frontcourt, with Nikola Vucevic and Tobias Harris both missing time. O'Quinn finds himself buried once again in a deep frontcourt, and that only became more of an issue after the Magic's draft and free agency moves. O'Quinn has some upside, but is unlikely to carve out enough of a role to be worth a look in the majority of Fantasy formats on Draft Day.
